Thomas Jefferson, a hypocrite?

A man who signed a declaration stating that all men are created equal that every person was entitled for their own pursuit of happiness.

Why was this man signing this declaration? He was doing so to get away from the oppression of a monarchy. To lead his life as he chose, and not how someone told him to.

After having achieved the goal of making his country a place where all men are created equal. He turned his back on a large chunk of the population. He left some of the men unequal, as slaves. Turning a blind eye to them, basking in his freedom whilst black scholars like Benjamin Banneker watch in horror as their people are slaves to the very men who claimed to be freeing themselves of oppression from the British Crown.

Most people are hypocrites. It'd surprise me greatly if Jefferson weren't one.

I chose to pick on Jefferson, nearly all the other men who signed the Declaration of Independence were huge hypocrites.

How can one sign something that states that all men deserve equal rights, and give the rights to those they choose? Bastards.

Side: yes

At the time, were Negroes considered 'men'?

As I recall, they were not. Thus, 'all men were created equal...' means white men, not black 'non'-men.

Side: yes

Agreed. Nobody can name one person who isn't a hypocrite. Beside you and me of course.

Side: yes

Thomas Jefferson owned slaves, so, he represented a falsehood when it came to principles of democracy.
