"Those who critcize this generation forget who raised it"

is this generation really so bad. all you adults look at teens and say "you little hoodlums! you're doing it all wrong!"

this generation has not had any world wars, and the wars which have happened are direct result of your previous wars.

me and many of my friends are tired of being scorned by adults. granted, there are some retards out there who have been very retarded, but don't group all of us in with them.

Yeah, i'll take you all on!!!!

What are you talking about?

No one has any problem with your generation at all. Not in any specific way.

In fact, you seem particularly bright for a bunch of dumb kids.

But the fact is, as bright as you are,

you're still a bunch of dumb kids, and are going to be treated as such for sometime to come.

So get used to it. Everyone goes through it.

thats what i'm trying to stop. I don't want to be seen as just a bunch of dumb kids. this generation has more access to technology and thus wisdom than any generation before it, so i'm kinda hoping that we all use it.

Access to technology ≠ wisdom.

Access to information ≠ wisdom.

Intelligence and wisdom are two different things.

Don't you dare translate the debates about the children that have been going on here into anything that includes you! Yes, you do, from time to time, act like a kid....you're supposed to....you're a kid darn it! But you have what others don't and that's what makes you belong here. How many allies do I have that are under 20? MANNNNNYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. I'm in a generation all by myself here it seems and I've a child older than your moms. I'm a multi-tasking-multi-generational-multi-talented woman...come take me on my little pischer!

"They raised us so its THEIR fault >:("

Yeah, I guess, but at some point everything comes together and when people are given free will, they'll do whatever the hell they want, literally.

Blaming the older generation for our failings is a childish thing since we're the bearers of the torch. So brush off that dirt and don't forget that.

somebody has gone and upvoted nearly everyone but me. awww... i hope its not personal. to bad they didnt have a tag. You FAIL:)

the adults of the past generation are giving the next generation (generation X) alot of the problems which it had. they are just passing them on to us, and then they criticize us! we have a few self created problems, but not nearly as much as you of the previous generation did. at least wait for us to grow up and make some mistakes, geez.

OK baby....of what do you speak? We all went through something previous generations arranged for us. This is my motto and will be on my tombstone. "Character is wrought on the Anvil of life's sting" Live, experience and be of good character. The mantle you will hold may be heavy but no heavier than you can manage.

i fear that you are wrong when you say that we will be able to manage it. besides previously mentioned economical problems, communism is looking for a comeback and today's society are attacking christianity. this country was founded on christianity. what happens when you take away the foundation of something?- it falls to the ground and shatters. though my resolve is strong as diamond, i can only hope that other's resolve is sronger should anything horrible like that happen. numerous political problems coupled with societal and economical problems are far too much to bear, i fear. if we do make it through all that, we'll have one helluva character though!:)

amazing! it says that my vocabulary was at 12th grade!

You might as well go ahead and "Ban" the lawnman. I'm of the Gen. X era. If you were born after 1981 your not a part of Gen. X.

I personally have no problem with your generation; what I have a problem with is your generation's lack of reason coupled with abundant ignorance. They are simply unaware that they are ignorant about most things of which they speak.

then what is this new generation called? i would seriously like to know. and why would i ban you? your statement was relevant and well thought out.

our generation only has a lack of reason because most of us have not grown to the age where we are ready to think with reason. most of us are still teens! give us a chance before you count us out. each generation has that period. for the record i was born in 93.

in calling us ignorant you are criticizing. If you say; what is wrong with us is our ignorance then you are slating yourself. it is crazy to think that there is anyone in this world let alone this generation that is not ignorant in some way.

Our generation is no more ignorant than yours.

It is to be expected of the older generation to criticize the new. Not simply out of tradition, but it's a recurring fact that has a method to it's madness.

Generally, a nation like America will progress forward in sense of technology, intelligence, social welfare, etc. and each generation stuck along this timeline will become rooted in their ways just out of personality and a natural inability to be psychologically adaptive, in the sense of "you can't teach an old dog new tricks". It's just a biological course trait affected by the environment, so of course there will be deviants, but this is the general behavior.

I'll use African-Americans as an example. 200 years ago, they weren't even considered to be human. That generation was convinced that they had a right to enslave these people, while lo and behold the next generation, the abolitionists who were considered radical at the time swept in and started arguing on their behalf, then while slaves were free later on through the 1900's they were still second-class citizens until the 50's and 60's where new radical desegregators and freedom riders and sit-in companions came in and started a movement for final equality and even they were brutally beaten for it. Each generation outgrows the last and is shouted after.

There are no definite lines, but generally these ideologies took hold largely in part to new, younger thinking. We listen to rap and metal, while mom and pop listen to Elvis, while grandpa thought Club Jazz was as unconventional as it gets. It's a continual cycle.

We are to some extent a spitting image of our parents, but we will generally improve upon older ways, "those who criticize this generation" of course, won't like it.

I forget who said it, but new ideas aren't accepted because of persuasion. They become mainstream when the older generation who refuses them die off. Kinda depressing, that maybe persuasion really doesn't work on a large scale.

Hardship leads to a greatness. Look at the generation of people that lived through the Great Depression. One of the greatest. What has Your Generation lived through? What has your parent's Generation lived through? No hardship.

No, but the generation before us has just given us this huge debt and this recession which won't be fixed until our generation grows up and maybe not even then. And are you saying that 9/11 was not a hardship? Our parents generation had to live through the vietnam war and korean war.

destpite the fact that many others probably will, i myself will not. or at least i would like to think so, but maybe i'll go senile and foam at the mouth or something. not everybody criticizes this generation, but many do. i hope to be a part of that minority when i grow up that does not criticize the next generation.

"You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain." -- Christopher/Jonathan Nolan

Oh! And

"The duty of the old is to be anxious on behalf of the young. And the duty of the young is to scorn the anxiety of the old." -- Philip Pullman

Although I don't think that exactly applies to this argument. I still like it. :)

I am one of six kids in my family. I have one younger brother, two older sisters and two older brothers.

I am 18 years old, part of "this generation" I guess. I was raised with older siblings who belong to the Y generation. I have always felt that I fit in more with that generation than my own. I rarely ever even listen to new music, with a few exceptions.

I'm not to fond of my generation, I think I was meant for the Y.

Problems with this generation are not due to nature but nurture:

I Blame The Internet

It's not losing our values and morals, they are just changing. Society is progressing. From the perspective of any generation the new generation is "losing values and morals" because they are changing. If every generation was like the last, we would still be living in caves. Every generation thought the succeeding generation was disrespectful, unruly, etc, but every generation has turned out okay so far.

I don't know how old you are but what you're going through is a tradition that has been us for generations. Your little sisters are learning from you and your parents but from you most of all at this point in time. There will come a time when they won't be so reliant on you but be proud to have such an influence on them and that you are a role model for their betterment. They will look up to you for the rest of their lives and when you look at them as years go by, be happy that you were such an important influence.

As my friend Amy says (and she is a very quotable person), "Adults are just teenagers with more wrinkles." I'm angst-ridden and tired of adults with a superiority complex. Particularly my parents, who wonder where I've "learned" my anger. Well, my father walked out when I was three, and only ever returned to argue with my mother. That holds true to this day. So where have I learned mistrust, to not have faith in relationships or adults, to fear arguments and confrontation, to be so "angry"? I choose, like so many other adolescents, to blame my parents. Is it fair? I'm not sure. Time will tell. Time will help me make the judgment.
