Those who criticize our generation forget who raised it.

I am of the opinion that there is little or no substance to the many criticisms of young people. We are demonized constantly: every car accident is our fault, every drugs deal, every rape, every murder; it sickens me. Societal problems are mostly caused by poverty. This is a problem which governments are supposed to deal with, but time and again they fail to even try. It is this apathy which has lead to societal degeneration; out-of-control young people are a symptom, not a cause.

Consider that every major war has been started by adults. When Blair announced the invasion of Iraq, hundreds of thousands of "irresponsible" young people took to the streets in protest; they were ignored, by the contemptuous government which sees them as the problem.

I admit that young people can be unruly, but since when has subservience been a positive trait? And why is that a basis for legalised discrimination? "The majority of car accidents are caused by young males, therefore they should pay higher car insurance". Yeah, so what? The majority of Islamic terrorists are Muslims, does that mean all Muslims should be denied life insurance?

Our generation? "our generation"? Just what is "our generation"?

I disagree with the debate title. First of all, I've known people of your generation who criticize it - that can't be too good a sign, now can it?

Secondly, while past generations (or rather, the past generation) may have, in a sense, "raised" you, it is often the case that teenagers rebel. That's happened for every generation I can remember, and it'll probably happen to every generation I ever see - however hard the parents may have tried to raise their child in a good way. Now, with all these anti-spanking activists and shit, coupled with the amorality of modern culture, I don't expect future generations to be any better off than the worst of today's.
