Thoughts on the 'Restricted Section' in Harry Potter?

Thoughts on the 'Restricted Section' in Harry Potter?

In 'Harry Potter', young and even adult wizards without special security clearances are strictly forbidden from reading material about the Dark Arts.  Do you support this notion?  If so why?  Do you see any potential issues of having powerful information outside of public reach, delegated to a trusted few?

Further, consider, in 'Star Wars', the Dark Side of the Force was forbidden and beyond the reach of the Jedi.  Does this have merit, or is it overwhelmingly problematic?

Thoughts?

Well. The thing with Harry Potter is that the restricted section WAS allowed access to certain students who showed the capability of handling the materials, provided they had a pass. In the Jedi saga's, the dark side was taboo and not even to be studied or looked at, just avoided without real explanation other than it's forbidden.

I agree with the Harry Potter books in that to really understand what's right or wrong you MUST be exposed to opinions/beliefs/magic from all sides as well as the repercussions of casting spells.

If you just tell someone, hey that's forbidden you can't go in there or experience the emotions that Jedi aren't supposed to have, well that's almost impossible for humans to do and requires a God like persona that most Jedi have fallen short of. Tasting the forbidden fruit in secrecy leads to addictions, where as a guided taste leads to experience and knowledge to make the better choices. If that makes sense.
