Some scientist say that mental illness is also a cause for increase violence in young people. Also if kids (young people) did not have access to weapons violence in young people would decrease. Not just saying guns either, any kind of weapons cause any weapon can cause people to die.

I'm truly shocked. Somebody voted down my dig on My Little Pony and Bronies. Clearly we have a Brony fan among us. Who is it? Bronto? Outlaw? Speak up Brony. Defend your love of all things My Little Pony.

People are quick to blame guns for mass murders yet no one is willing to look at what has changed in society. When I was a child there were firearms in every home that I visited. I had my first rifle at 12 yrs old. There was not a bunch of requirements to own a gun or shoot a gun. A couple of students had trap lines that they walked on the way to school and left their gun in the principals office during the day while they were at school and left with it at the end of the day. most vehicles in the school parking lot had a gun in a rack. Yet there were no school shootings. What has changed?

There were no video games with graphic violence. Which portray all humans as just targets. They definitely desensitize the players to death and destruction. Many people don't have that clear distinction between virtual reality and reality they blend together. I know I have had friends who like drug addicts became something different from video gaming. Say what you will but seriously what has changed????

I would add that the UFC (I believe that's what it's called), cage fighting is NOT a good source of roll models OR behavior for children. But, it's a free country ... for now. When the religious right takes over many things will stop ... including the Second Amendment. NO single religion country allows guns, video games that are not "sanctioned", young people whose behavior is not "controlled and acceptable" to the church", laws that do not follow "the word". So, Violence will be curbed and everyone will act as they are instructed .... so, don't worry about it. THEY will save us from all violence, except as metered out by the holy leaders. :-(

Al, Competition fighting such as Mixed martial arts has been around since the earliest known history. It is not about violence but about discipline. If you had ever been a part of contact sports you would realize that it is a battle of skill and strength which has nothing to do with violence and everything to do with discipline

Nonsense , the same argument was put forward for the more graphic comics books when they first hit the streets and the earliest tv shows with material like westerns and crime dramas being blamed for increased violence , this argument is generational and no doubt will continue being so well into the future

Incidentally Amarel is correct societies are indeed getting less violent

Depends from child to child. Some might take video games the wrong way. But I play GTA5 everyday. I dont think I’ve ever been a school shooter

Right I've played Call of Duty and still is, but I never wanna bring a gun to school and start shooting.

The idea that excessive playing of violent video games can lead to increased likelihood of committing violence is predicated on the following UNPROVEN assumptions and UNLIKELY connections.

1- People cannot differentiate (intellectually and emotionally/empathetically) between real people and animated constructs of humans, zombies, aliens, etc. in a game.

2- Sedentary indoor activities that generally contribute to likelihood of obesity somehow increase aggressive behavior, despite the tendency for obesity and poor cardiopulmonary health to decrease testosterone levels. Testosterone is a known to contributor to aggression in men.

3- A sitting/sedentary 2-dimensional experience based only on sight & sound can condition attitudes and reactions that are manifested in an active 3-dimensional experience that includes all five senses.

4- Automatic reactions developed while using a lightweight, two handed game controller operated solely with the thumbs and fingers can transfer to the use of a significantly heavier firearm that requires the use of both hands and arms to bring the firearm into a position that involves the entire body changing posture in order to aim.

5- People who are too caught up in playing video games to do homework, get jobs, ask girls out, or clean their rooms will somehow muster up the gumption to gather weapons and ammunition, go outside, find people to shoot, and expend the energy to kill them, knowing all the while that the police will ultimately kill or arrest them.

I am sorry, I just don’t buy it.

If a person is so damaged or so poorly socialize that a video game can influence him to commit murder, then it is only a matter of time before that asshole kills someone, even without the games.
