Wanna know HOW we can have Universal Health care, AND have money left over?

Hello:

Here's how the math works..

When you take the TOTAL amount we, as a nation, spend on healthcare, and SUBTRACT the part the insurance industry takes, we'd have enough left over to pay for EVERYBODY'S health care, plus a few billion to buy some aircraft carriers..

Look. As a staunch capitalist I'd LOVE to keep the insurance INDUSTRY in tact.. But, they've outlived their usefulness.. What do they DO, by the way, except deny coverage and pay SOME of your bills?? If EVERYTHING was covered, then we wouldn't NEED anybody to deny coverage.. We'll need somebody to write checks, and Medicare does that pretty good..

Quit attaching penalties and overtaxation to everything, and maybe you'll get something passed.

Hello excon:

Why would anybody PAY a company to DENY services to them? But, that's exactly what we pay health insurance companies to do.

Why do we do that???

When you buy insurance, they give you a huge booklet listing ALL the things they're NOT going to cover..

Why don't we just cover EVERYTHING and fire the insurance company?

Truly.

Because the hypochondriacs would never leave the doctors' office, and you'd never get in for legitimate reasons.

There are only so many doctors, socialism would cut their capitalist ability to make good money, and you'd have even less doctors. The only answer would be the Communist answer. Force people to be doctors, otherwise everyone dies in line.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: Spending $40 Trillion Will Save Us Money, But I Don’t Know How

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: Spending $40 Trillion Will Save Us Money, But I Don’t Know How

When you want to keep the ball in your court, you pivot, but there’s a skill to it.

Some people have it, some don’t, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez does not have it. Once again, she was asked how she would pay for her agenda, which comes with a $40 trillion price tag over the next decade. Forgiving student loan debt, public housing, free education, and single-payer health care are some of the top ticket action items. CNN’s Jake Tapper asked her how would she pay for it. In short, spending trillions will save us money…somehow. The insurgent democratic socialist who booted top Democrat Joe Crowley (D-NY) in a massive upset primary challenge, who supposedly holds an economics degree, doesn’t know how to answer. The reason: they don’t know how to pay for it. Soak the rich doesn’t work—and while she details the tired line of every industrial nation has some form of singe-payer, they always leave out how much of a disaster these systems are. Take the United Kingdom, which she uses as an example, the National Health Service is overwhelmed and patient stacking has begun. This was utterly predictable. Also, 16,900 people were forced to wait in ambulancesin order to get treatment. Yes, the joys of democratic socialism. It may have a different name, but it’s just as crappy as its cousin.

Tapper aptly notes that Cortez didn’t answer the question, even when pressed with figures from left-leaning think tanks that note the Left’s staggering cost to their agenda items (via Fox News):

One of the things that we need to realize when we look at something like 'Medicare for all -- 'Medicare for all' would save the American people a very large amount of money," Ocasio-Cortez told CNN's "State of the Union."

The New York Democratic congressional nominee continued: "What we see as well is that these systems are not just 'pie-in-the-sky.' Many of them are accomplished by every modern civilized democracy in the western world."

[…]

"What we need to realize is that these investments are better and they are good for our future," she added. "They are generational investments, not short-term bandaids. They are really profound decisions about who we want to be as a nation, and how we want to act as the wealthiest nation in the history of the world."

Host Jake Tapper noted that according to "left-leaning" analysts, Ocasio-Cortez's plan for universal Medicare would end up costing more than $30 trillion dollars, even after factoring in the sweeping tax hikes that would offset the expense by only roughly $2 trillion.

Insurance, originally, was a company "gambling" that you would pay them more money before you died, fell ill, or your house burned down, than they'd have to pay YOU in the end. Then came "lobbying"! They took, likely, over 90% of the risk out of the game and made it a SURE profit from the get go!

I purchased 30mg of nasal spray a few days ago. Paid $39 for it. The receipt said "Your insurance saved you $197 today." Let's see, how much does 30mg of gold cost??? This was nothing special, been around for years. I pay quite a lot for that insurance. If I go by the cost of what few meds I take, it's worth it. But runaway capitalism is, in more ways than one, WHY we have thee most expensive health care in the WORLD, and only 37th best! Universal health care CAN be done cheaper AND better! Just force the capitalists to take a REASONABL_E profit! (Not allow them to charge precious metal prices for (for instance)), nasal spray! The insurance co., the drug store and "Big Pharma", ALL made a disgraceful profit on my stuffy nose! If I had cancer, likely, a real estate co. and a bank would have shared in the goodies! We NEED to take the "gold" out of health care!

Good job excon, you have actually made a really good point for once. Instead of forcing people by law to give insurance agencies money for virtually nothing, we should instead shut down all of them and just socialize healthcare. Conservatards hate anything that has to do with socialism, yet they are ok with being forced to give people money so that they can fight tooth and nail to NOT do their job whenever they are actually needed.

A lib named Barack Obama made it mandatory to get insurance or face a penalty. Trump abolished that policy.

Hello A:

Oh, it adds up alright. You just don't like it.. Do I need to show it again???

Ok.. Let's say we spend 10 trillion dollars on health care.. Let's say, out of that 10 trillion, we pay the insurance industry 2 trillion.. That leaves 8 trillion left over for health care..

But, if we STOPPED paying the insurance industry 2 trillion, that would leave the full 10 trillion for health care..

That's how the math works.. I dunno why that's so hard.

First, you made up those number.

Second, you’re pretending that “we” will have more money by not giving t to insurance companies anymore, but the monopoly of government replaces those companies. Money isn’t gained, it’s shifted. Do you know how well monopolies keep down costs? How about government monopolies whose customers are compelled to purchase?

Third, 28.9 million Americans under 65 lack health insurance. Taking all the money from insurance companies and giving it to the government may provide everyone with an annual checkup for you to feel good about, but that’s about all.

You’re a vet. The VA is single payer healthcare. The waiting lists covered up at the VA were literally killing vets just a few years ago. God knows what they are doing now. Ever been to a local VA hospital? Care to comment on the quality? And vets are only a small portion of the population.

Why do I need to get permission from a bureaucrat to see a doctor?

Insurance companies are a big fail because of government intrusion into healthcare.

Less competition drives up prices

Subsidies drive up prices

Telling the insurance companies how run their kit drives up prices

On the other if government divorced itself form healthcare we could sit back watch the insurance companies go at it in all out blood-bath like the Hunger Games, attempting to capture market share. What sort of mayhem would come up with? Perhaps expanded coverage for fatal diseases at cheap prices!

Why do I need to get permission from a bureaucrat to see a doctor?

Hello the:

Under my plan, you won't, of course, because EVERYTHING is covered.. Here's how it works.. You get sick.. You see a doctor.. He sends his bill to Medicare.. Medicare pays it..

Easy peasy.

How works TODAY is, you get sick.. You see a doctor. He sends his bill to your insurance company.. Your insurance company OPENS their BIG book to see if the services you got are covered.. Not easy or peasy!

Under my plan EVERYTHING is covered, so what would you need permission FOR????

I got it.. You can HATE my plan because it's socialism. But, you CANNOT deny the math. Look at it this way.. The government OWNS the freeways, but you DON'T need their permission to use them..

Excon,

On the contrary, I really like your idea.

The problem is you won’t give Capitalism the opportunity to evolve into a resource based economy so we can have healthcare like that.

Socialism could never achieve this. Men would driven to most dire states of poverty and starvation.
