We teach our kids that they shouldn't fight with their little friends over toys, food, etc. Instead, they should talk and reach a consensus. "If your little friend keeps hitting you, ignore him, or talk to him, but never fight back, because then the problem will never be solved." We should now teach adults that war doesn't solve problems, and is bad both to winners and losers. Side: Opposition
Personally I am against war as the very act of fighting among each other divides us as a race. With more divisions, and with that, more bad blood between people, misunderstandings among people of different groups, be they racial, national and religious, will increase exponentially. As it is already, just LOOK at the state of the Middle East. Because of the recent surge in terrorism, everyone has taken to seeing the Middle East as a place where only dictatorship and violence rule, and that all Muslim people are Fundamentalists who delight in taking you along with them in a suicide blast. Not to mention because of the Crusades, everyone has tagged religion as nothing but a convenient excuse to declare war "in the name of God" Also, war takes lives. And when lives are taken, they are done so in a most gruesome and cruel way, which I hope that I will never have to see even once in my lifetime. Not to mention, war exerts a tremendous strain on the country's economy. If you dont have a comparative advantage in making weapons, then your resources will not be used efficiently, and people in your own country are going to suffer, if not in the battlefields of soldiers, then in the battlefields of their own house, where they fight for survival from hunger. I agree that war is horrible. But what do you do if your country is attacked? Or if, in the case of world war II, a group of countries are going to kill countless people if you don't do something? I don't know that there AREN'T alternatives, I just don't know much about them. Side: Proposition
War is evil. Was when we(United States) were fighting the Germans in world war 2 evil? Yes, but war would probably have come to us eventually from them if we didn't step in. It was probably best to step into that war and fight the Nazis but war spawns hate, suffering, ethical division, and mass death and there is no such thing as a just war. The initiation of war stands on no justifiable or moral grounds, it never has and never will. Once a war is started i think it is difficult for a nation within the proximity of the war to not take part in it and still maintain few casualties but we have no reason to start one in the first place. Stockpiling nuclear weapons, spending multiple billions on technological advancement and equipment, and attempting to control other nations are all actions that attempt to justify the idea that war is a necessary evil but they do not prove it. When nations fight each other it is not the people who fight or have a serious problem with the other nation's people but the governments of those respective nations that fight and the soldiers are the tools that the governments use. Most soldiers and citizens of the respective nations are told that they need to hate each other that the other means them and their families harm, but rarely is that the case for the majority involved. No war is just and all sides that take place in war lose some morality but the defenders have justification for defending their homeland as long as they don't attack outside of it. The attacker no matter if it is a superpower, democracy, dictatorship, communist government, or capitalist nation, has any right or justification for the initiation of the war and is guilty of all the suffering and death caused by their decision to invade.
