Was Obama Right to Meet With the Dalai Lama?

Despite requests from China to cancel the meeting, President Obama went ahead and met with the Dalai Lama for roughly 45 minutes at the White House on Saturday. Did Obama make the right decision?

Meeting with the Dalai Lama is quite different from actually supporting Tibetan independence. The latter would be a violation of China's sovereignty, and I wouldn't blame China for protesting it. But the former is just... the President having a talk with somebody.

It is not America's stance to choose sides as long as the person is not attacking us. The Dalai Lama is not a threat towards us and is actually against Communist Oppression, something that America used to stand for.

I will say, however, that China is not the evil Communist regime that it used to be. It has eased up on its genocide rates as well as its control over the market. They have allowed business to expand within their country, and while they still have a while to go, I can see that allowing trade with China will cause it to become a slightly better and better country (as it has been doing so far).

However, the Dalai Lama is not a bad man and Obama is not China's bitch.

Side: yes

It is now 2015 and the meeting with the Dalai Lama was a good one since the Dalai Lama stands for peace.

Side: Yes

No, President Obama is one of the worst busybody presidents that America has seen ever. He thinks that he can fix everything.

U.S. Presidents have been accepting visits by the Dalai Lama for decades, and now all of a sudden it's being "the worst busybody president ever"... sure.

I will slam every single president unless he is libertarian, so Ron Paul would make a good president. I slam President Bush Sr or Jr or Clinton if need be. Otherwise, the present is now, and Obama is the president.

President Bush Sr and Jr and Clinton are busybodies as well. President Obama is just one step higher than those clowns.

There is no need for any president to meet with the Dalai Lama unless it is for peace or trade talks that directly affect America, not indirectly affect America.

Although I'm not an Obama fan, I do agree. The president has the right to meet with anyone as long as the one he is seeing agrees to the meeting. Presidents in the past have met with the Dalai Lama, why can't he?
