Watchmen Movie: A succesful transition from comic to film?

As the movie approaches release it's time for CD nerds to weigh in. Will the movie be a success or has Hollywood wasted another opportunity at redeeming itself?

Although the movie hasn't actually been released yet I am hopeful. Unlike many I'm open to small changes to fit the medium and the level of effort that seems to have gone into marketing and creating the milieu is encouraging. I admit to having been more than a little skeptical at the concept of transferring the story to film, I feared that Hollywood executives would muck up with the story to make it more "action-packed." Yet all seems well for the most part, the spirit, if not the details appears to be intact.

But it is early yet, the movie hasn't been released to general viewing but the reviews are promising. So what does this mean for future movies? Could it be that Hollywood has finally realized that the franchises and characters they so often ignore are in fact fine the way they are?

I am not very familiar with the comic book, but from what I have seen of the movie it looks as if they took it straight from the comic book page and slapped it right onto the big screen.

Most of the super hero movies tried to find a compromise between reality and the comic book by making it look kind of realistic, which worked out okay I think. But this just looks stupid.

Take The Dark Knight for example, it was amazing, and just so real. This movie looks incredibly fake and mostly CGI so It's a wonder they are even calling it live action.

But I'm sure the action won't disappoint. It will be entertaining and fun to watch.

Problem is that Batman was always a tongue and cheek type comic strip while Watchmen was the first SUPERHERO, dark type comic (graphic novel, w/e)

The Dark Knight, although pretty good, was nothing like the comic strips or any adaptation of them.

Watchmen is actually a perfect adaptation.

The Dark Knight? Nothing like Batman? Have you read a Batman comic within the last ten years? TDK was based on The Killing Joke, a batman comic.

Watchmen was severely disappointing.--------------------------
