CreateDebate is a social debate community built around ideas, discussion and democracy.
If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.

There's no such thing as "an assault knife". A knife is a knife. And lots of hard working men(a man lady such as yourself wouldn't know) need something sharp and that isn't cumbersome to complete there jobs and pocket knives fit the criteria.
You never know when you'll need to cut something, but still, things are always needing to be cut.
Also, if those other people carried knives then they could have protected themselves.
Knife control, just like gun control, will not stop those planning to break the law using those weapons.
And what more can we even do about it? There are already knife laws in place.
We need to do more to protect people from those who decide they need cutting. There is always someone out there that needs to be cut. We have to protect those individuals. Just because someone needs a good cutting doesn't mean they should be cut. ;)
If you smoke a pipe as my dad does, but which I don't, a pocket knife is a most useful tool for reaming out the buildup of carbon inside the bowl and the needle like extension is invaluable to clear tobacco beads blocking the stem. If someone is intent on causing bodily harm then an apparently innocent looking ball pen, preferably metal, expertly used with a thrust into an eye socket or to the temple of the head can be just as lethal. Should pens be banned?
Absolutely. The goal is to keep people safe. How would you feel if one of your family members got stabbed in the eye or the temple just because you did not support the, "ban pens" cause?
BTW, that is a really sick example. Maybe you should attend anger management classes so that you do not think about violent situations.
I'm glad you agree with me on the dangers of pens. As the old adage goes, the pen is mightier than the sword, and we must recognise that it has the added advantage of being easier to write with. Thanks for your advice on the anger management classes. I might just have a 'stab' at those.
I just can't believe how violent knives are ..... they should have been banned years ago ... lol pfft !
ooops ... there were also bats and sticks involved as far as I could see ... if it weren't for bats / sticks and knives, we should have reached Utopian peace by now ... OH THE HUMANITY
But I bet you believe guns are alright, eh? Anyway, that's irrelevant. I think knife regulation laws are alright in their current state, although I wish the Balisong wasn't so widely banned.
in order for humans to stay on the top of the food chain, nothing can be permitted to prey upon humans. NOT EVEN OTHER HUMANS! it's not that fucking hard PEOPLE!
It can only be the size of your thumb and must be registered. It must also be a butter knife. It can't be black, and you must pass a background check to purchase a grindstone along with a permit from the atf and a reason to own the knife. You must also wait a 2 week cooling off period before you can own the knife.
There is knife control. Furthermore, killing a lot of people isn't as easy as it is with a gun, unless you are boss. If a single person managed to take out 50 people, survive and escape, with a hand held knife or even a sword, you'd be a legend, even if you were insane.
There were hundreds of people at that rally, 5 or 6 injured and all expected to survive. If there was ONE AR or AK in the group it would have been MUCH different. Apples and Oranges!
Most shootings involve two people, the shooter and the victim. Despite the technical capability to cause more carnage, there are other factors that influence the number of victims. Consider that a S&W;9mm fires about 10 rounds a minute, and is the most common firearm used by Chicago-area criminals, one study found. The Sako M95 fires 600+ rounds a minute, there are about 300,000 of them in circulation and not one has been used to commit a crime. So one despite having a greater technical ability to create carnage, in reality, is involved in less of it. Our thinking on the matter has to be a bit deeper than "Well, that weapon is more dangerous".
