What are some examples where we strengthen the weak by weakening the strong?

You cannot bring prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich.
You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.
You cannot further brotherhood of men by inciting class hatred.
You cannot establish security on borrowed money.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.

The Glorious Revolution in Great Britain is a great example of this. They weakened the king's power so that the people could have more rights. Parliament gained power and everyone was happy. In fact, England has had one of the most stable western governments in modern history.

Every time we give a weak man a fish, instead of teaching him to fish, we are weakening the strong fisherman.

That is all so true. Giving a weak man a fish doesn't solve much. Why not teach the weak to fish so that we all can be strong fishermen!

Seems to me, if you teach someone to fish, then that would weeken the fisherman more than just giving the dude one fish.

The parable has been sickeningly twisted by conservatives who love to self-righteously pronounce the evils of charities, when Heyzeus himself would not let a rich man become an apostle unless he gave away his riches (not teach others to be rich.)

The point is supposed to be that charity is good, but teaching people to not need charity is better.

Not sure what you're trying to imply with your debate Joe. I'm guessing it's some anti-union, pro tax-cut-for-the-rich-more-taxes-for-those-lazy-poor-people, anti-immigrant unless they work for X corporation for free, statement.

In which case you're completely off base.

No I was referring to schools teaching at the level of the least common denominator. In other words, they seem to teach at the level of the slowest student. I'm referring to the dumbing down of America and ranting against Political Correctness.

Although I do favor a tax cut for myself (;

Joe, I would say that's the problem right there. For the sake of a few small dollars for the middle class, and huge cuts for the wealthiest, Republicans have been cutting taxes for years. In Arizona, they passed amendments that require a 2/3 majority of the legislature to raise taxes at all, but they keep cutting each year.

So for those hand fulls of dollars for guys like you, we have the worst schools in the country. It's just great. We are facing a huge deficit this year, and there is no chance of raising taxes because of the amendments. So, you could have schools where there are smaller classes, and you could have excellence. You chose a new Mercedes for the CEO of Exxon. I would say that's a poor choice, but that's what you favor.

You are so very correct. Jesus cared deeply for those shunned by society. He had only words of kindness toward them. I don't see too many "attaboys" to the reigning clergy and the rich and powerful in anything he did.

What about the widow who has nothing? What about the sick, the forsaken? What about the multitudes who cannot help themselves. Those are clearly who Jesus stood by.

Remember the widow who gave her last cent? That is the person Jesus took the most joy from. To be wealthy and begrudge those who can't help themselves, sorry. That lack of compassion is precisely what Jesus railed against.

Bravo to both you and David. I'm getting so crazy reading the rest of this crap that I cannot even respond...that does not include Sparsley's remarks! To Jake...the response you gave to Sparse means you'll make a very strong Cockroach! Yikes...God save us all!

Why is it that the wealthy are seen as stingy and greedy? There are lots of philanthropists out there. To say that all rich people lack compassion is nothing more than a ploy to get more money out of them.

The progressive tax brackets in the US is a good example. The more money you make, the higher the rate at which you are taxed.

If the dinosaurs hadn't been wiped out due to whatever catastrophy killing off most of the food the giant lizards needed to survive, small mammals (our ancestors) would've never made it to the sentient stage.

It was only due to the weakening of the "strong" dinosaurs that tiny mammals thrived.

Maybe we should let weak inherit the Earth. (;
