Those word don't mean physical strength. If you go through something, whatever it is, it makes you stronger and wiser. If you go through a long journey with cancer, but miraculously survive - you are probably very weak physically, but mentally you are stronger than ever. Side: Yes its true.

It is true in some cases and not in others. That's one of the reason why we're being vaccinated all the time. The harmless antigens dont kill you, but they stimulate immune system to produce suitable antibodies, ready for a secondary infection. It is true that "survival of the fittest" explains some of archaeologic patterns in history. And it is true that it took us pain to learn how to walk. Your mom would usually lure you with colorful toys and withdraw it at the moment you got there. It is true that without your first love, or numerous dates you cant even remember, we can find the true love that you happily spend your life with, care and being cared for. It is true that first days at work teach you what real world is like, def. not your homy college. However, it is also true that COPD or some smoking-related diseases, AIDS, cancer kill you slowly, painfully, eating your body from inside out, from your mind to the body. It is also true that unhappy or tragic events in your life can cause you bitterness, loneliness, withdrawal, depression,... After all, we all agree that our attitude is the primary factor to determine what really "kills" you. And by killing, I dont mean the death-related connotation only. Tragic events just happen no matter how hard you try to keep them away from you, they're a part of your life - success and failure, happiness and unhappiness, rage and peace,... But if we choose to be strong, be firm with your head held high, your shoulder raised with pride and strength, that's the moment we are "strong". We could die of lung cancer. Yeah, so what? Everybody dies, right? We may have to say good bye to our beloved. So what? Evrybody has their own path to travel. But I would still choose to live my life to the fullest till the very last second, and I would still choose to organize my life without the person, sort it out, and yes, live to the fullest. The diseases could kill my body, destroy it, but they could never my determination to actually enjoy my life and live. The departure causes pain and tears, but I know that I'm an independent person with my own life, goals, dreams, hopes, ... and whenever I am, whoever I am with, they are still here, within me. Sometimes, in your idle, boring daily life, you need some boosters to know that life is worth living and fighting for, and you have much more strength, dignity, beauty and potential than you have ever thought. Side: Yes its true.
I absolutly agree with this statement. If you were able to experience something and move on, it makes you stronger, not only physically but also mentally. You'll never be fall into the same trap, you will do everything possible to not keep making the same mistake. Side: Yes its true.

as someone who has survived cancer, i can say that this quote is very much true. the cancer was in my knee joint, its known as Osteosarcoma and it had to be removed. they replaced my knee with a titanium joint and i am definitely not physically stronger (as i used to be able to run round and play sports, not anymore) but thats NOT what the quote is referring to. its referring to your mental state. and yes there are others who dont get 'stronger' after some form of life crisis but thats because they have a low aptitude for psychological change. only people with a moderate aptitude experience a positive change after trauma. J.K. Rowling had a hard life up until she was 31 and now Harry Potter is a brand worth over 15 billion dollars. same thing happened with Colonel Sanders, the founder of KFC. everyone has their opinions but how about you decide your argument after doing some research? Side: Yes its true.

Uhm....theoretically that's a lovely statement in actuality though? Not so much. A person shot in the spine isn't going to be stronger for being confined to a wheel chair. A person brutally raped and tortured, while a survivor, isn't always going to be stronger mentally, maybe even physically. Strength comes in many forms, the traditional physical and the less thought of mental strength but each person handles travesty differently so while the saying is a nice thought, I don't think it's entirely accurate. Side: No! it only makes you weaker!
For example. Something happens to you, you lose your arms and legs, but you survive. How exactly does that make one stronger? Whether something makes one stronger or weaker depends on far too many variables. The saying "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" is quite frankly stupid, because it is not always true. Side: No! it only makes you weaker!

and I suppose it requires mental strength to endure that as well?? Your shallow view on strength is quite amusing. Why are you so negative anyway.. You do know the topic is referring to an idiom. If you heard the pen is mightier than a sword you wouldnt take it literally would you. Side: Yes its true.
Yes, because real life definitely follows the typical movie plot of a protagonist with great courage in the face of the darkest of evil. For a person depleted into a potato will surely triumph over everything else, and emerge a stronger person! Even if everything he has is gone and he has nothing to live for, with depression only growing worse, every second a living hell. Side: Yes its true.
