What exactly is "intelligence"? What makes a being intelligent?

Is intelligence the ability to solve complex equations? Or is intelligence the ability to understand shapes and geometrical figures? Or could it be the ability to cognize and use logic to solve problems? What exactly is intelligence and what makes humans intelligent?

Intelligence is an inherently imprecise term. What matters is not that there is overall consensus, but that there is agreement between parties utilizing the term for the immediate purposes of communication.

I would expect no less of a naturally well thought out argument from you, Jace. Excellent work.

We have proof that life on planet earth was designed by a mind – and that if life did evolve, the capacity to evolve had to be designed in. The word “Evolution” in the English language always refers to an intelligent process (in business, society, technology etc.) and the only usage in which it allegedly doesn’t is naturalistic Darwinian evolution. But communication theory shows us that Evolution by Random Process is a hypothesis without proof .............. http://www.cosmicfingerprints.com/read-prove-god-exists/

I have seen bacteria evolve under a microscope. To say it cant be natural is absurd.

Btw, you're an arse for highjacking someones debate to talk about this. It shows Christianity in a very bad light - they're willing to treat others badly if its in the name of God.

Thank you for recognizing that and pointing it out.

Who says it can't be intelligent? Who says random is unintelligent?

To me intelligence is cognative capacity. .

So cognitive capacity equals intelligence in your terms? Are you able to elaborate on this thought?

1 point

Sure. Cognative relates to the mind, and capacity is a fancy word for ability. I have the cognative capacity to process your words, think of my own, and type my own. Cognative capacity is the ability to give, receive, and process information. I perceive that your screenname is Paradox44. I perceive that the word paradox can mean a contradiction or problem. I am not saying this about you though. I perceive tat 44 can be divided by 0, 1, 2, 4, 11, 22, and 44. I perceive that your screenname means something to you as mine does to me. I perceive that you are a highly intelligent being. I percieve that you address serious questions. This is just a small sample of perception and cognative capacity. Please excuse my spelling.

I think intelligence is the ability to interact with the environment and change behavior when the environment changes.
