What happens when we run out of oil?

Oil is the lifeblood of modern civilization. Yet it is finite. It is being used at an uncontrollable rate. How many things you use everyday are made from oil? Fertilizers, paints, medicines, tires, fuels, screens, prosthetics, bags, artificial organs, communication lines, roads, shoes, cables, electronics, tools, bottles, pipes, synthetic clothing, windows are all made from petroleum. The transportation industry is run mostly on petroleum. Most of our energy comes from petroleum.

Never happen. There is oil all over the place and the worst case scenario is that the newer sources are more expensive.

The problem we have is we are too damn stupid to drill and retrieve our own domestic oil and insist on buying it from people who hate us or enjoy taking our $$.

As we move toward alternatives we need to drill for our own oil/gas.

According to the most optimistic predictions we will reach peak oil in 20 to 30 years. Peak oil is the point at which production can only decrease. Keep in mind that these are predictions made by an energy company, who have a long history of optimistic predictions, who have a vested interest in making sure we continue to buy oil. Other predictions place peak oil in as few as 10 years.

Peak oil is the point at which we have effectively used up half of the world's oil reserves. Oil is already more expensive because the half that we used up, was the oil that was easiest to acquire. We are now relying more and more on deep ocean reserves which are many times more expensive to extract and yet demand is still climbing because of a growing third world.

It will become more expensive to extract oil than it is to sell it, long before we actually run out. As soon as oil production is unprofitable, it will stop.

We used to think that we would never run out, but now this has become a very real, very serious reality. It will be economic ruin on a global scale. Oil rigs around the world will grind to a halt. Cars and trucks will stop running. Large scale farming will become impossible. Food shortages will occur. Power outages will occur. Medicine will become scarce.

This will happen, maybe not in 30 years, but it will happen, sooner or later we will run out of Oil and there will be consequences. Better to act now than later. We cannot continue on as we have been doing.

First off, never use never in an argument. It can easlily be shown to happen. Case in point, do you know what made the "all powerful oil" lest you ask for another 65million years of dead plant and animal life. I'm pretty sure we will run out of Texas Tea, Before we realizee that perfect occurence. I believe that alternative energy is and will be allways easier/more effiecent as we evolve. Oil is the thing of the past, please keep living in that mud hut, no aqueducts having shit hole you want.....but I would rather evolve!! As as are abiltiy to harness kinetict energy..through damns!! or maybe even tidal flpow...check back in 10 years and I'll let you know where oil ranks as an energy producer!!

If America ran out of oil we will have no gasoline for our Vehicles and would immediately halt transpotation methods! Also certain plastic products in America require oil to manufactore! Examples: plastic grocery bags, Hefty trash bags, ziploc bags, parts for the automotive industry, Laundry detergent containers,Water or soda bottles, and a ton of electronic devices. A oil shortage would nearly shut down the economy! Experts say we have actually already reached our oil peak level meaning we have already went up to the top of the oil scale and now we are just slowly freefalling back down the scale until the oil well depletes and becomes dry!

Unless the United States is dependent on the electric car, it will be a major crisis.

The world could descend into chaos similar to a disaster movie and oil prices will increase to extreme rates.
