Evil is obviously your self consciousness and what you were taught.

Are you saying that evil is you? Your making it seem that evil is pretty much anything society teaches you...

If you were tought the devil is good and god is bad and you didn't know any better that's what bad is to you. Bad can be various depending on how you were raised and what you were taught.

It's basically anything counter to you, or in your way.

Whatever your goal is, it's good, anything opposing that is evil.

1 point

Um okay. What if I want to kill someone, but I don't? Is that evil? That is my main objection.

Anything opposing or in the way of your objective. SO if you say your objective is to kill, but you are choosing not to, it's either not your objective or those would be inside you evil feelings.

To most people killing is the evil, because and underlying objective for most people, is to be good.

Tell us what Yeshua says. Pray and ask. Then type word for word what he tells you otherwise everyone will know that you don't really have a relationship with him.

Evil is anything considered "bad" and Good is well "good". Good and evil is merely what we approve of or disapprove of. Their is no good or evil objectively, I can't argue that someone murdering someone else is "evil" I think it is "bad" but nothing beyond my approval or dispproval. That doesn't mean I won't be against someone else killing another though. Morality is defined as a code to live by.

Whatever we deem to be immoral or malevolent.

Agreed. .

First of all: this is a great question. Glad we get to talk about it. I have a lot to say on this topic, so here goes...

Evil is a subjective idea; it's not a definite thing. When presented with a situation that a person finds to be immoral, against what they believe, or against what society arounds them finds to be correct, they could interpret it as evil. Some people find evil to be at varying levels, but it is always considered to be the opposite of what is right.

Evil is usually used as an extreme term, as someone who is so far off the path of society or the morals of what an onlooker sees as correct that no other term is acceptable.

Many people have an image of people being good or evil, or having varying measures of the two, and the latter is somewhat correct. Each individual follows varying parts of what society or one person calls moral or 'good' and certain parts not.

A perfect example of this in today's society could be about beliefs against gay right. Someone could find a supporter of gay rights to be, at least to some degree, 'evil' based on their own beliefs. Lets call him John. Likewise, the supporter of gay rights in question, lets name him Joe, could find Joe equally immoral and 'evil.; However, John may not feel as strong about Joe as he would about 'Jane,' someone who identifies as a homosexual person. John could view both of these people as 'evil,' but at varying levels. Also, if Jane doesn't really care about what John thinks about her and views him as not evil at all, Joe could see John in a completely different light.

Note: Seeing as this is not a debate about gay rights, I have tried to not present any argument for or against gay rights. I apologize if my personal beliefs on this topic have interfered with the main point I am trying to convey; I am simply trying to use this as a modern example.

Another portion of being 'evil' can be action to action. Sometimes people could think of one specific action to be an 'evil' thing to have done, which doesn't necessarily make the person who committed this 'evil' thing an 'evil' person. Again, evil is very subjective, so what one person could consider a harmless joke another could consider evil or cruel.

Thinking of an action as evil can also come from the onlookers past experiences. If, for example, Tim was bullied as a child and he sees his a kid being bullied at the park, he may think of those kids as inherently evil due to the experiences he has faced in the past. However, the bullied child may even be friends with the bullies, and see it as a harmless joke. It's also possible it was the first time it had happened, and no strong negativity was applied to the actions yet. Each circumstance can vary greatly, and views on levels of 'evil' involved are incredibly influenced by each person.

Even though evil does vary from person to person and experience to experience, there are some actions to which a large percentage of society agree that are 'evil.' These things are almost ALWAYS extremes, and usually very rare to occur. The first things that come to mind when you think of such things are the very obvious (but rare) horrors of today's society. For example: murder without (and with) motive, terrorism, kidnapping, rape, extreme vandalism, (vandalism has become somewhat common place, and most of it is now accepted) arson, bullying to the point of suicide, the list goes on and on.

One example of a such action that is not as obvious could be something like trying to convince people to do something that's immoral, unethical, etc. (basically what we are figuring out is 'evil' so that you'll feel better about doing an action like that itself. This is particularly nasty because it can actually change what evil is considered. Say that someone is trying to cut class, and gets maybe 100 or 200 students do it with them. This person, by getting all of these people to join in on what would normally be considered immoral has turned it into a somewhat commonplace, 'normal' thing to do. However, the fact that the action is originally considered 'evil' and then turned into something normal using a tactic that is pretty common place can show how extreme this action can be.

So, we have established that evil is subjective, and based off of personal morals and beliefs. Society agrees on the extremes, but the gray area is the most confusing. But what makes these things extreme?

The extreme evils upset order, they ruin control over 'normal' life. This can involve breaking rules, perhaps important ones; denying people things they have come to expect, such as food, water, and shelter; or even just being different from someone else in a way that makes people uncomfortable or makes them feel unsafe.

The less extreme evil usually does that as well. I think that the two most important reasons for evil are as follows:

1. Taking away control - People like to have control over their lives. Many mental illnesses such as depression or anorexia are linked back to a need for control. It is a common need for humans as a species, and when it is removed, it upsets what we find to be normal. People who take away our control, or control us in ways that we are not accustomed to can be considered evil, and since this is an incredibly important part of being human, it is very prominent.

2. Removing order - Similar to the control issue, order comes from our rules and laws. Humans need order, which is why we must have rules and laws and punishments for not following them. When rules are lost, people lose their ability to have anything they can truly rely on. When people break the rules, they are making themselves different from society. People see this separation, and often interpret it as evil.

Well, there's a two page essay for ya. Hope it helps you understand at least WHY it's so hard for you to write a definition... it's really complicated.

I couldn't have explained it better myself, bravo. bravo.

Thanks. Took me a LONG time to write but it was really fun.

Okay, I got a down vote with no explanation. Gee, thanks trolls.

Evil. Hard to explain but people have different views on what's evil and what's not. So it's an opinion of the person, basically what you think is Horrible and deceiving.

I usually define evil in two sets: shadowpuppetry (when someone is programmed) and true evil, when someone decides to be evil (maybe me in the future mwahaha!).

Nothing is good or bad but thinking makes it so. Children learn what is evil from their parents.

Evil lies in the evil heart that an evil doer possesses. Evil is defined in that evil heart.
