What is spirituality?

Can secular atheists be spiritual? Can scientific creationists be spiritual?

How does one be spiritual? Does it take believing in things outside of reality? Or is it just reverence of nature?

Spirituality is a grand exercise in fanciful thought that distracts people from the harshest truth.

Spirituality is a relationship, specifically one which breaks with the standard inside vrs outside false dichtonomy, and promotes a sense of connectivity or oneness.

I think this could be true, although the definition is "Of, relating to, or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things."

So according to that, unless you believe in mythology and things beyond this world, which cannot ever be proven, or even actually exist, (if they existed in reality, they wouldn't be beyond this world, right?) then spirituality has no meaning at all, it seems. However, the brain, although a physical object that works according to the laws of the universe does have mental thought, although that's more like abstract thinking, rather than being spiritual.

Are you saying you've successfully managed to reconcile your opposites or the restless multiplicity of your own personality? I am assuming that is what you meant by: "breaks with the standard inside vrs outside false dichotomy".

Spirituality is the figuring out of ones life for oneself, in short.

Isn't that philosophy though?

Figuring out the meaning of life and purpose and morals is philosophy, not spirituality, right?

Spirituality feels like a null-word, or something you can be, or not be, and it makes no difference at all in life. If strong faith makes you believe in gods, if strong devotion and reverence makes you go to church every sunday, if philosophy gives you meaning to life, then what is spirituality?

From it's usage, it seems like something a person "brags" about. Not bragging, of course, but to say "I'm very spiritual" is a common thing to say, but no one is ever "Very unspiritual".

It's a positive word, to denote a property, but that property has no meaning.

No, although philosophy can include it on some degree. They both have similarities.

Philosophy is more like a rational thinking over existence, what is right and what is wrong. While spirituality is only concerned with one individual and the purpose of his/her life.

philosophy gives you meaning to life, then what is spirituality?

Philosophy itself is just a study, although it can provide a meaning through the thinking process it requires. Spirituality is the discovering of ones meaning.

Not bragging, of course, but to say "I'm very spiritual" is a common thing to say, but no one is ever "Very unspiritual".

No one says "I'm very unspiritual" because they don't care about spirituality even if they do/have it on some small degree. Some think about their life and try to figure it out more than others, those less aren't as spiritual.

Almost everyone thinks about their own existence and comes up with the most common questions. Those questions are the same ones as some of philosophy's questions, but in spirituality they are only concerned with the individual.

People could be unspiritual, by not caring about themselves at all. But then they would be rather sad and miserable, if they are happy with their life by not caring about themselves then they are spiritual, because their life is figured out.

Discussing spirituality goes under philosophy, it seems.

Have you ever felt that feeling, deep inside, watching an homeless begging for some cents? Have you ever felt that bite in your stomach wondering why some people, simply because they were born in a certain country, benefit of everything, and others, by fortune, do not? Have you ever asked yourself, alone in your room, what is life? Why are we here? Have you ever loved someone knowing, simply knowing, deep inside your heart, that that is Life. Emotions. Actually, to me, that is spirituality. Mechanical explanations will never get the point, because spirituality, the life itself, has not mechanism preconceived.

I know my thoughts about it are limited because I only know my own internal experience, and am not privy to anyone else's.

My experience of spirituality is that it is just an emotional connection with my conceptualization of the universe.

I would say reverence for nature is only spiritual if you believe nature has some spirit, spirits, whatever.

It would require some "spirit" in order for one to be spiritual I would think. Whatever form that spirit may take.

What do you mean by spirit?

Is that the same as a soul or a ghost?

"The Spirit of the Holiday Seasons" isn't actually a spirit, it's a frame of mind, although spirituality is a bit different, isn't it?

Correct.

Spirtuality means ghost/soul, whatever.

Spirit has synonyms, but spirituality necessitates some "spirit" in the soul sense.
