CreateDebate is a social debate community built around ideas, discussion and democracy.
If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.
To learn more about the CreateDebate scoring system, check out the FAQ.
When you are ready to voice your opinion, use the Add Argument button to create an argument.
If you would like to address an existing argument, use the Support and Dispute link within that argument to create a new reply.
It seems to be a uniquely human question. You don't really see any other species of animal, mauling over the meaning of life. I never saw a bird say "what the fuck am I doing here?" just before it flew into a window.
well we all come to this world with a mission, me may not know what mission it is and weather we realized this mission or not.. but the thing that I definitely know is that if God created me, it meas that it should be that way
energy cant be created or destroyed, giving the impression it has always existed, which i take to mean our souls/conciousness have existed forever in a timeless dimension
Also, we might not even have souls (I am arguing specifically against souls, not consciousness). I generally see such a concept introduced religiously.
You're assuming that because A (consciousness) is a requirement for B (soul) to exist, then B=A. Consciousness is simply state of awareness within oneself. While "soul" is the immortal essence of a person, living object, or object.
well if you are not conciously aware that other life is other life living by itself and you only work towards a means of just you, and not regarding the other people all around, then you would be considered to have no soul, and not be conciously aware, if you are conciously aware, you have a soul, you realize you have a soul, because you are conciouss to that fact
This is such an idiotic statement. How is immortality the purpose of life when no existing (or no previously existing) animal, plant, or living thing has been immortal?
In a sense it could be the purpose of life, as many living beings are adapting, changing, becoming better at surviving. Life is struggling to remain in existence, as if the goal is to reach immortality.
Whatever state one is in there is always a need for sustenance, be it matter or energy or anything else.
Still, in a sense it could be achievable. A closed system, nothing goes out, nothing comes in. There is energy or a reserve of energy that is in constant circulation and use by the "active" part. But that existence would be rather pointless from our perspective. Why exist if you can literally do nothing? Doing something other than just being alive would mean change and growth, which itself would require compensation from the outside or sacrifice from the inside.
Immortality as a species, as life, not individually. There's always a need for food, if it never runs out and obstacles are dealt with it could be possible. But highly doubtful when observing the harsh reality.
Sigh. our conciousness is some type of energy, it is a type of energy, energy cant be created or destroyed- immortality is proven through basic science
theres this thing called reincarnation- not too hard to believe, our conciousness leaves our body when we die, it has to go SOMEwhere, i said energy cant die, our boddy is matter, we just change into energy when we die, technically, its immortality, so........... be more specific i guess
Why the hell would i be trolling? spirituality is actually a science, maybe a subtle science, but a SCIENCE, our humanity is in crisis, noone has faith anymore, and guess what hitler did before he rose to power? strip the people of their faith and call all believers "crazy schizophrenic trolling lunatics" this is what i believe, im not in the social loop, i dont troll, i just speak whats going through my mind, why dont you try to be more reasonable? if this was a person on person conversation, you would feel the inspiration from these words, society is sad these days
If Hitler had the notion he was doing "god's work" (Which I doubt. Wasn't Hitler an atheist?), then wouldn't that make the idea of the faith in an all-powerful, supernatural hgod WORSE?
You do know there is this thing called lying and deceit? its pretty common, and no it wouldnt make the idea worse because anyone who has their own faith would have known he wasnt doing the right thing, but they didnt
there's this thing called reincarnation- not too hard to believe
Reincarnation is a bullshit stupid theory. Plain and simple.
technically, its immortality, so........... be more specific i guess
Actually, no. It's not in the slightest bit any sense of being immortal. The concept states that after your body dies your essence is transferred into a new body. Immortality is the concept of living forever. If you die, you are not immortal, even if you continually inhabit new bodies.
-The first statement is explaining the definition of reincarnation, which is, essentially, "the process of your essense being transferred into a new body after death.
-The second is meant to show how reincarnation does not equate to being immortal. Immortality is defined as "the ability to live forever."
Reincarnation involves dying, therefore it does not equate to immortality.
Yes I understand, but reincarnation also implies that you have reached a state of full conciousness, so when you reincarnate, you would still have concious memory of your entire past, which is basically immortality. Edit But i see your point now, i gotcha
We create our own purpose - this doesn't mean our purpose is any less worthy. Indeed, what could be more fulfilling than aspiring to a purpose you have set yourself? - rather than a purpose handed down to you; a purpose you cannot escape.
I have two possibilities - not that there are only two possibilities, just that I'm writing two.
1. We were created to amuse God. He got bored so he created us - you never know!
2. Our purpose is to create happiness, just like everything is to try to create happiness. Pick anything and I could tell you how it links to happiness (man made, mind). Please challenge me on this one.
Firstly, that's not manmade, and secondly if dogs didn't poo they'd get severe constapation and then their intestines would explode. Seriously, would you rather have to pick up the occasional poo from your dog or have to pick up the poo-covered corpse of your dog?
