What is the cause of obesity?

Why are Americans fat?

Add New Argument

Obesity is the direct result of eating more calories than your body can burn. Calories that are turned into fat. So..., effectively, obesity is the direct result of being fat ;)

Side: being fat

Obesity is the direct result of technology. Sure, there are probably some scientific relations tied to obesity with genetics, but for the most part, obesity is not from laziness, but technology, which can be related to overeating. Therefore, t

echnology has allowed people of rich nations to live more conformable through high food supplies and daily routines.

Simply, with more availability of food, people are going to eat more.

What does daily routines mean?

Well, we travel long distances on cars, trains, planes and boats instead on foot or horse. We wash our clothes in machines along with our dishes.

The list goes on.

I blame corporate America, primarily the fast food industry. I agree that we can all stay healthy by exercising, but hear me out.

Fast food companies like McDonald's are the largest consumers of a variety of products including corn, beef, chicken, tomatoes, potatoes, and several more. Because of this, the government offers incentives to farmers to plant some of these crops (primarily corn). Once supply increases, the price can go down. So fast food can purchase corn and potatoes for even less. This allows them to keep low prices. Why is that important? Because most Americans can't afford a healthy meal every night.

A fictional mother of two works as a maid at a Holiday Inn. Her husband is unable to work because of health problems unassociated to obesity. With the pay she makes, she can only afford a $15 or $20 meal for her family at night. So how should she spend her $20? Should she go to the grocery store and but produce but not satisfy her family or should she spend it on meals that will fill up her family? And this is the case in millions of homes across the country. That is why obesity is such an epidemic in our society.

Eating too fucking much. And not exercising. It's that simple, and health experts have been droning this for over half a century now. Nobody listens because they want to eat their food.

Techology has definately increased the chances of someone over-eating, therefore getting fat and becoming obese later on.

Side: Both

People are fat because of bad eating habits, not enough exercise and in some cases genetics.

Eating too much. It's that simple. As a dog once put it "PUT DOWN THE FORK!"

eating too much+laziness+lack of exercise+bad coping mechanisms=obesity.

Side: Both

Most Americans do love junk food but have to pay the consequences later by gaining weight.
