I think that it would have to be Chinese water torture. That is were a single drop of water keeps falling onto your forehead at a constant rate until eventually a hole is bored through you head. Generally the people just went insane from it. They kept the people fed so they would die of insanity or of the torture and not of starvation or thirst.

The worst form of torture imaginable is being forced to bump uglies with Honey Boo Boo's mom while making out with this and having Carrot Top lick your nipples. Good luck getting to sleep tonight. I know I'm going to have nightmares now.

It has to be something that takes a whole lot of time and it has to appear non-sensical. Like kidnapping a random person from the street and torturing said person for tens of years.

There's a lot of weird ways to torture a person without physically harming him. Chinese water torture has already been mentioned, there's other ways through. The Nazis had a way of restraining a person and then tickling them with feathers. Seriously, it sounds lame, but people would actually break crying from it (and not the good kind of crying). A torture like this ought to be combined with use of psychoactive substances. The k-opioid receptor agonists have an dysphoric effect on the subject, and so could be used to induce starts of absolute missery. Added with a selective dopamine reuptake inhibitor (like cocaine) which would increase the effects of dopamine in the brain resulting in motivating the victim for escape. But obviously, the victim is restrained so all his motivation is of no use. Dopamine reuptake inhibitors have the added effect of causing the reward system to break down which adds to the already induced dysphoria. The last thing I can think of is that you would want to regurlarly dose up the victim with epinephrine. It shouldn't be a continious administration, since that would lead to sleep deprivation followed by death; you don't want to give him the satisfaction of dying.

If physical torture becomes too much, you either faint, or your brain just stops receiving those pain signals, and you sort of go in to a psychedelic trance.

Mental torture however, is worse. I would say if you can find a way to torture someone by making them watch their loved ones physical pain, and not being able to do anything about, again, and again, and again, never stopping... I imagine that would be worse than any physical torture. If it really is love, then anything they are going through, you will automatically wish it were you instead, and just stop their suffering.

( Providing love exists, which many people would say does not..)

There was an old Chinese torture method that the Chinese used to punish monks when they broke laws the monks where meant to follow. What they would do is put a while I too their neck in a way that doesn't kill them, and then thread a long heavy chain through it and make them walk around the streets in shame, if the monk tried to lift the chain to ease pain they would get whipped 20 times.

The worst torture would be to watch someone torture one of your loved one's. Mental torture is way more effective and painful than any form of physical torture.
