Strive to be disproven. If someone changes your point of view, you haven't lost. You've learned something new, which opens new doors in your understanding of the world. This doesn't mean not to argue like hell, but aspire to a mindset objective enough to understand where and how your knowledge can be improved.

Hmm, maybe someone should make a debate called "Argue the other side of ______ issue. No sarcasm allowed." That'd be an interesting thing to try out. Any idears? What tends to cause the most heated debate on this site?

Definitely agree. But in the context of a debate, a point isn't technically valid unless proven in a logical way. So being a bad debater doesn't mean you're wrong, just technically close to it.

Have low expectations, so as not to be disappointed.
