What's your genius plan?

I've met a lot of people here that are anti-immigration, especially when it comes to muslim immigrants. They throw facts around concerning crime and radicalization, which is a valid point in the debate, but .. what is your plan?

Is it to close the borders and deport immigrants?

What then? You'll just let the world explode around you while you live happily in your bubble until the terrorists have recruited enough people and power to take over your country altogether from outside?

Terrorism is a global issue. This is not the time to become nationalistic or patriotic, this is a time for the western world to stand up for our values.

Live together or die alone.

The anti-immigration people astound me. I've spoken to enough people who believe we should do a mass immigration removal for illegals. Some of whom have been in this country for decades and who have raised a family and make a life for themselves here. At what point in time, ever, has forcefully removing people from their homes, their families, ever turned out well or has been looked kindly upon by future generations? At one point in time we were all immigrants, in fact I remember learning a long time ago the Irish were looked upon in America as Muslims are now. With disdain and mistrust. If we want to be a great country we need to ACT like it.

I'm sorry if this doesn't meet the criteria of your debate, it just irks me.

And they call us ignorant and clueless. I can only laugh, but it's hard.. because even though we're the smart one's they are the majority.

I don't know if they are the majority, it could be the case, but they certainly are the loudest.

A working plan would require monitoring Muslim mosques and controlling the Muslim clerics, in the country which is taking in those immigrants. Clerics that are found guilty of preaching any kind of religious extremism, or tell their convent they should not follow the law, should be deported immediately. Even if they have 10 wives and 100 children.

I disagree. They should be jailed.

This is the first time I have heard someone suggest attacking terrorist across instead of attacking "potential" terrorists. This isn't a bad idea.

I'm not pretending to have all the answers, I'm just trying to think through what my plan would be - per your question...

Immigration happens for several major reasons.

1) Money - So if they're coming to make money then make it near impossible for them to do that, whether its hitting their employers in the pocketbook hard if they get caught or hitting the worker in the pocketbook by taking or taxing their earnings. Latin Americans will stop coming in droves if they just can't make any money anymore.

2) Persecution or suffering - If they're coming to escape something really bad somewhere else in the world then we have to do the best we can to first assess that they're safe, and then to decide how many we can assimilate temporarily or permanently. There should always be SOME, but I'll acknowledge it will never be possible to allow ALL. It just isn't.

3) Crime or terrorism - It's naive to think we can seal up so tight no one with bad intentions can ever get in here. I just don't believe our own Berlin wall is feasible or effective. But it's NOT naive to think anyone with proven criminal backgrounds or behaviors consistent with insurgents should be immediately arrested and/or deported if we do catch them. And I'd never support labeling an entire group (ethnic, religious, whatever) as suspect and making them register. That smacks of Nazi Germany. But I indeed DO think it's reasonable that if a particular institution is caught directly associated with terrorism (like if a particular mosque was where some terrorists rallied) then that institution from that point forward can be closely watched or in the most extreme cases disbanded in order to stop more terrorism from coming out of it.

I am not personally against immigration, but I do take issue with the idea that any nation is obligated to the global "community". If for no other reason than that this is the same mentality which motivated and justified the very interventions which created many (if not most) contemporary terrorist threats.

Live together or alone, you die alone regardless. ;)

When you die, who dies with you?

my genius plan is to make it as easy as possible for immigrants to get work visas if they have not committed any violent crimes .

Doesn't really solve the refugee crisis, nonetheless a good plan .

there would not be a refugee crisis if we had not invaded iraq without a plan .

Is it to close the borders and deport immigrants ! What is so hard for you to understand ?

I am having trouble with the next step after that. What happens afterwards, when you've deported everyone and closed your borders?

Deportation means everyone ?
