What should be done with teachers accused of serious misconduct?

Should children's safety be put first and the teachers removed from the classroom as soon as they're accused? Should they continue to be paid or should they lose their jobs, "guilty until proven innocent"?

Neither the punishment of innocent teachers, nor risking the safety of children is an acceptable outcome when a teacher is accused of serious misconduct. While the process can take years, far less damage is done if the teacher is placed in a non-teaching position but still working, for example grading and assisting other teachers.

Since for the time being this is still America a person accused of a crime is deserving of due process before they are punished. Give them a speedy trial and tell the teachers' union to go fuck themselves seeing as they ruin everything.

Side: Remove and pay

Some times, when a cop is accused of a serious offense, he is placed on leave of absence pending an investigation. Why should teachers be any different?
