If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.

It doesn't favor any specific god(s); it can apply to any sort of idol you may have. And whether or not it's "lame" doesn't really matter -- any motto we use could be considered lame, everyone's gonna have a different opinion. Therefore, the best thing to do is just leave it alone. Unless of course people are crying themselves to sleep over it or something.
It doesn't favor any specific god(s); it can apply to any sort of idol you may have.
Though I could argue that it does show favor to a specific deity, I'll play along and just for the sake of argument agree that it doesn't. Either way, there are those who cannot or do not believe in or worship gods or idols. Thus does not represent America as a whole.
No, what america needs is to stop the wars overseas, cut corporate welfare, reform immigration policies, end the drug war and kegalize and regulate narcotics, start innovating in science, investing in other forms of safe energy, reform education, etc. America doesnt need an imaginary being
Yeah but you forget that even today "In God We Trust" is still being used today on our coins, and dollar bills and it's what our Founding Fathers wanted for this country. If some of the Founding Fathers came back to life today they would be very disappointing in what the U.S has come to today. And if some of them spoke out against gay marriage, abortion, evolution, etc they would be called a religious bigot because of what they stood for.
If everyone in America believed in Jesus Christ the country would run 100% better then how it's doing right now because there wouldn't be that many wars, people wouldn't be doing drugs or anything to do with narcotics, people wouldn't support abortion, gay marriage, evolution, and there wouldn't be fights breaking out and everyone would get along and there would be no need to fight.
Everyone in the Vatican believes in Jesus Christ and they don't run 100% better than America or than anyone else. Also, me remind you that apparently at a time when 100% of the world believed in God, is when "sin" entered the world; Adam and Eve. Your argument completely contradicts the creation of sin story in the Bible. Not to mention, unless you want to claim you are perfect and never make mistakes, there certainly would still be things like drug addicts and crap around.
No, that was unconstitutional and would not have been approved. You have no basis for your statement where I know for sure that Washington would not like it because he is partially responsible for the 1st amendment that is being violated.
I know they would approve because they did believe in God and I have a book about all of the quotes that they said, the date to when they said that, and who they said it too. If you want I can provide some quotes.
Abe Lincoln wasn't a founding father, there is also evidence to support the theory that he was an agnostic, he never attended church services other than to support his Christian wife.
He is a Christian, why was He against slavery a lot? Because He knew that in the Bible slavery is wrong. He even quoted God in the Gettysburg address. I also have quotes from Abe Lincoln when he talked about God, the date, and who the letter he wrote it. Would you like me to pull some quotes for you out the book I have for it?
Although he was against slavery, he himself was racist, he wanted to put all freed african americans in the colony of liberia, btw christianity isnt anti slavery, if you read your bible it clearly tells slaves to obey their masters as they would obey christ, it even instructs fathers on how to sell their daughters into slavery.
just a small grammatical note - the way you phrased that makes it sound as though you think only Christians would be against slavery. I don't think that is what you mean, but I could be mistaken.
(Also, apparently you talk about God so often that you tend to capitalize he even when talking about humans.)
Because [h]e knew that in the Bible slavery is wrong.
We know that many contemporaries of Lincoln used the Bible to justify slavery because Lincoln specifically took time to address it. Did he respond by saying slavery was wrong in the bible? No, because he knew that slavery was ok in the bible, he just pointed out that it was not a slavery based on race - knowing that people wouldn't even think of white people being slaves and he could thusly completely skirt the whole 'the bible condones slavery' argument. - the original slick willy...
"In Kentucky, perhaps, in many of the Slave States certainly," said Lincoln, "you are trying to establish the rightfulness of Slavery by reference to the Bible. You are trying to show that slavery existed in the Bible times by Divine ordinance. Now Douglas is wiser than you, for your own benefit, upon that subject. Douglas knows that whenever you establish that Slavery was right by the Bible, it will occur that that Slavery was the Slavery of the white man—of men without reference to color—and he knows very well that you may entertain that idea in Kentucky as much as you please, but you will never win any Northern support upon it."ref
He is a Christian
Lincoln's religious views are far more complex than that.
He was often derided for not being religious. In one instance he responded by saying:
"That I am not a member of any Christian Church, is true; but I have never denied the truth of the Scriptures; and I have never spoken with intentional disrespect of religion in general, or of any denomination of Christians in particular."ref
You should also read the letter from his law partner William H. Herndon:
In god we trust was added in the money by the knights of columbus back in the 50's to potray the USA as a faithful nation to counter the state enforced atheism of the Soviet Union, whom we were in a cold war with at the time, it never belonged there in the first place, it violates our seperation of church and state clause
The founding fathers werent religous, they put a seperation of church and state clause in the constitution to keep religion out of government and prevent a theocracy from taking over, as how it did in europe for centuries before which many people were killed in holy wars and inquisitions, btw if your going by the logic of what our founding fathers wanted for us, then you believe that women shouldnt be allowed to vote and that blacks should still be slaves
I believe that supporting gay marriage is supporting those people's lifestyle of their lifestyle. I don't agree with gay marriage or their lifestyle. It's wrong because we were designed to be with the opposite sex that is why you can only reproduce with a male and a female. You can't have sex with 2 males. It doesn't produce anything but diseases that can be life threatening.
That is why when God made the first two beings on this earth, it was a male and a female and not a male and a male.
You can't really tell if someone is born gay or not. It's literally impossible because you can't really tell if your child is gay right when they just were born. God didn't give them that attraction. They were the ones who were full of perversion so God gave them over to that sin because they were too much into it.
But, you can tell that factors beyond one's control are correlative (hormones, birth order, etc.) And that many animal species exhibit homosexual behavior which can provide a group with advantages:
So, everybody is a sinner, but at a certain amount God can't take it and gives up? At what point would you give up on your children (when you have them)?
"I believe that supporting gay marriage is supporting those people's lifestyle of their lifestyle."
They aren't asking you to support gay marriage - just that it be legally neutral while you vociferously argue against it. If they pay social security taxes, they should be able to marry the person they love and have their spouse be eligible for those benefits the same way heterosexuals would.
"It doesn't produce anything but diseases"
Someday you might fall in love and find that it is something.
"That is why when God made the first two beings on this earth, it was a male and a female and not a male and a male."
Actually the first beings (prokaryotes) were not male and female ref
Srom c'mon we've had this argument before. The founding fathers wanted NOTHING to do with religion and wanted a SECULAR government. The motto "in god we trust" is unconstitutional and never should've been passed.
What a fantasy world you are living in, most of people in our prison population are christian or other religions, most intelligent people are least likely to be religous, this was never a christian country, never should be, never will be.
2. So because I am religious that makes me retarded? Do yourself a favor and get off Createdebate -.- We don't need idiots like yourself on this website!
No it is not a Christian country, and you sir should be glad that it isn't, because then you would be put to death for wearing clothes of mixed fabrics (Lev19:19)
Basically what I'm trying to say is that "God" is merely an extention of yourself. You use the religion you were raised in (in your case Christianity) and you modify the core beliefs to match your tenents of what you believe to be right. If you look at all other christians in the world, they all individually believe differently in what Gods will is. What you have to realize is that if you dont take the christian bible at its core (even though doing so is in itself impossible because the bible contradicts itself many times) and simply take what you want out of it and discard everything else, then you are not worshiping the christian god, your worshiping your own personal God. I don't hate you, I am only trying to help you, I used to be just like you, but then i began questioning things and doing research and thats when I found out everything I was raised to believe was a lie. I'm not trying to deconvert you here on the spot, thats a decision you yourself have to make, all I want you to do is not to be afraid to question things, and do some research. After that if you are still a Christian, then thats fine, at least you researched and thats what you personally chose. But dont live according to a source that you never questioned and dont fully understand.
I understand what your trying to say, I apologize for calling you a troll however I will continue to stay true to my religion and there are certain reasons why.
Why not, its the entire basis for your beliefs, without it, your religion has no foundation, if you dont believe in the entire bible then you need to be completley honest with yourself and admit your a Deist or an Agnostic. I used to believe that way too, but then I realized I was simply cherry picking everything I wanted to be true out of the bible and disregarded what I found to be morally wrong, just like most christians do (for example, being strongly opposed to gay marriage but having no problem wearing clothes of mixed fabrics and eating shellfish) and I had to admit to myself eventually "hey, maybe this is all a bunch of crap". Im not saying your stupid, I just want you to think about it.
2. So because I am religious that makes me retarded? Do yourself a favor and get off Createdebate -.- We don't need idiots like yourself on this website!
No. Some Christians may very well have high IQs and some atheists might be morons but the overall data shows higher atheist IQs. Get over it and stop whining.
3.Like it or not it still is a Christian country
If we're talking population then sure it's a Christian country by sheer numbers. But if you mean Christianity is supposed to be an integral part of American society and government as dictated by the constitutions and intended by the founders then no you're dead wrong.
1.Yeah but thats not the proof or evidence I wanted.
That is the most clear proof you can get!! When it comes to proof that is top notch. Straight facts. Straight to the point. I mean I get if I just cited a scientific paper and told you NOTHING about it so you had to dig and dig through it for the evidence but I didn't do that. Poll results. Boom done. And those are just the most recent polls to my knowledge. There have been many others all with the same results.
I don't know what you want for proof. I'm sure you don't even want proof because that means you're wrong. But if you wanted even more convincing proof just go to a prison and ask for their records of religion percentages. Or get a sample of Christians and atheists IQ tested. I'm sure you'll find the same results.
2.hold his own XD the guys a troll! Not to mention judging by his pathetic argumentation, hes nowhere near my level of intelligence.
It wasn't a great argument. He could've cited the two sources I posted and explained why it would never be a Christian nation by citing the constitution or something but his argument seems honest to me. Please, tell me how by his argument are you able to discern he's a troll? Do you have any theories or are your troll senses just tingling?
3. Your making yourself look like an idiot, You fail to realize that.
By shoving indisputable evidence down your throat and cockslapping you with some logic? Do you not realize I am manhandling you with my responses and you don't know when to quit? Honestly what are you even arguing about anymore besides ad hominem attacks on him and I? Grow the fuck up.
4.Srom is actually far more intelligent than you are, atleast he doesnt defend trolls and I dont know who this Trumpetdude guy is.
Did I ever say Srom was not intelligent? No. Srom may very well be very intelligent in the fields of mathematics, reading, writing, and may be great at problem solving and have a good memory. These things are what IQ is heavily based upon. However where Srom fails is logical analysis of information, knowledge of science, understandind and using evidence, debating and persuasion, and failing to remove himself from confirmation bias. The same goes for trumpetdude who, if you have not already seen him, I'm sure you'll see eventually. And are all things you share in common with him. This is what makes you "bad".
2.You have to be kidding me? Are you really asking me why I think he's a troll? The guy just flat out said if your religious then your stupid (which may I remind you is completely inaccurate) He's worse than Nox0.
3.Ill "grow the fuck up" When you realize that just cause this guy is an atheist does not mean he is correct. You do realize you are on the wrong side right?
4.Um no I actually believe in evolution so you can take the logical information and knowledge of science part out. Now that your done talking bad about me, Srom, and Trumpetdude, How about I talk about you, if you don't mind that is.
2.You have to be kidding me? Are you really asking me why I think he's a troll? The guy just flat out said if your religious then your stupid (which may I remind you is completely inaccurate) He's worse than Nox0.
Heres what he said:
"What a fantasy world you are living in, most of people in our prison population are christian or other religions, most intelligent people are least likely to be religous, this was never a christian country, never should be, never will be."
He didnt say "if youre religious then youre stupid" he said if youre intelligent then youre less likely to be religious. This is a fact supported by the poll results i found. It sucks but its true, it wasnt an insult it was an observation of fact. and it wasnt directed at you or anyone in particular.
3.Ill "grow the fuck up" When you realize that just cause this guy is an atheist does not mean he is correct.
Its not because hes an atheist that hes correct. Hes correct because hes correct.
"What a fantasy world you are living in, most of people in our prison population are christian or other religions,
Correct
most intelligent people are least likely to be religous,
Correct
this was never a christian country,
Correct
never should be, never will be."
Opinion but i certainly agree
You do realize you are on the wrong side right?
Of what? This argument? This debate? or the god debate? im not sure what side youre referring to
4.Um no I actually believe in evolution so you can take the logical information and knowledge of science part out.
Fair enough
Now that your done talking bad about me, Srom, and Trumpetdude, How about I talk about you, if you don't mind that is.
Who says i was done? I could go on for hours. But sure say your piece
Its christianity that deprives rights, worship however you want, this is america, you have that freedom, if you dont like gay marriage, dont marry someone of the same sex, you dont like abortion, dont get an abortion, you dont like marijuana, dont smoke it. But if someone is gay and they love someone else, you have no right to tell them they cant, if a woman is raped and is pregnate from the result of that rape, she shouldnt have to give birth to that unwanted child that reminds her of being raped and being forced to take care of it because you dont believe in abortion, If I want to smoke pot, I have the right to do that, not everyone beleives in your god, so why should they have to bow down to your rules? That be like if there was some weird club of people who wear porcupines on their heads declaring everyone, regardless if there not members of their club, should wear a porcupine on their head simply because their great porcupine god demands it, if they want to be in this club and follow its rules, fine. But I dont, because Im not a part of that club. Evolution btw, is a fact, go crawl back into your cave if you cannot accept modern day science
One, It sounds beter and two, it's really been theat way for over 200 years. I can't see how it would really bother people THAT much. It does sound more patriotic then "America runs on dunkin"
I don't understand how the motto "In God We Trust" has been the motto for 200 years when it wasn't added to money until the 1950's to combat communism.
If we're offering slogans and the like as potential mottos, to represent the current state of both our government and our culture, how about the Star Wars line?
