What should we do about the WBC?
How should we handle the Westboro Baptist Church? This is a hateful group of people against everything they possible can be against, specifically our troops. Situated in Topeka, Kansas, they go to the funerals of recently deceased troops to protest with signs against the war, the troops, gays, "fag enablers", America, other nations (like Sweden...?), and so much more. To see their perspective, go to either www.godhatesfags.com or www.godhatesamerica.com
They even get their children to help them protest! I think we can all agree on the fact that they are completely wrong, so how can they possibly be stopped, if at all.

Definitely what he said. If we get a massive handful of people that disagree with them, and protest on their property(s), we'd outdo them massively and make them feel like scumbags. (I seriously think all people that suck this much, should be kidnapped, put on a plane, and sent off into the middle of the Saharan Desert). No one would miss them. However, their kids still have hope, we could re-train them. We should do to them that we do to all other hate groups, demonize them. I point out how the KKK are just jealous of big dicks. I point out how the Black Panthers are a bunch of niggers. I point out how WBC believes in a zombie jew. i mean, it's not good to attack random groups, but when they're hateful, just go /b/ on their ass. (remember, troll only the offender, don't say what i say in public forums...) Side: Demonize Them

The best way to deal with people like that is to either ignore them or hit them really hard. I am for the latter, but I do not want to go to prison. By ignoring them they will eventually lose steam and change their ways or do stupid things that land them in jail. Side: ignore em

I don't think you understand what freedom of speech is. All it means is that Congress can make no laws abridging the freedom of speech. That does not exempt people from having their views or beliefs criticized. I shudder every time I hear someone claim freedom of speech when their views are challenged. None of the options in this debate advocated banning the WBC's right to voice their opinions, so your point is invalid. Americans, Christians especially, have to be critical of this extreme, hate-mongering organization. If we want to get rid of extreme, fringe organizations this is the only way we can do it. I think it's best to ignore them, because the more you fight them, the more they think that they are fighting for god. When I saw a documentary about them, it was very clear that grandpa had a tight rein on the family. When he dies, the young ones will naturally succumb to their instincts and come to their senses... hopefully! I'm surprised however, that social services haven't intervened. Those children must suffer an immense amount of stress and pressure. Side: ignore em

How can they be stopped? Good question! I think they cannot be stopped by doing the same things they are doing to others. It just makes them shout louder as they did in their blasphemous take off on "We Are The World." Where did these people come from and how did they grow? Exposure is a good way to get America involved in this type of outrage. Call the news channels and the PBS stations and get them involved. How about the Senator and Governor of Kansas? Do they agree with what is going on there? This is like the Branch Davidians gone whack-o all over again. Side: Demonize Them
They have been on the news before. But I honestly think they haven't been exposed enough. I mean, I never saw them on the news, myself. Also, I don't know if there is much government can do, since they aren't breaking any laws. They're just terrorizing individual families as they lay their fallen soldiers to rest and are hurting the gay community, etc. They were on fox...
