What type of psychiatric illness is Religion?

I believe that those who believe in a caring, personal, prayer- hearing god or a 6000 year old Earth truly harbor psychotic beliefs. Given all the overwhelming science against both. But some think the godists are merely deluded. Thus..."neurotic"and not "psychotic." What say you??? Thanks.

The danger lies with those people who believe in one invisible, silent entity extending the number of imaginary guests inside their otherwise empty heads that may include demons telling them to slaughter all non-believers, or infidels, as we can observe with Islam.

Those of weak character who find it necessary to use a 'superman God to guide and watch over them have no place in public office.

I don’t think its an illness , believers are just victims of indoctrination , take a child and feed it with the chosen religion from infancy and one ends up with the fully fledged believer , the child’s society is amongst others who believe the same as in school , friends and church so the belief is firmly instilled into the pliable mind

What I state is factually borne out which is why a Muslim born of Muslim parents in a Muslim country is a Muslim , this fact seems to totally fly over most believers heads as they simply cannot acccept the fact that they are indeed victims of indoctrination

Agreed Dermot, the brain washing process of children is disgusting and should be banned.

However, when people mature they should be able to smell what it was THE CLERGY had been shovelling into their vulnerable minds.

I'm afraid there is only evidence against the latter. There is no evidence that a caring, personal, prayer-hearing God does not exist.

Wrong.

On the contrary...... The fact majority of evidence in the world...like disease and evil and innocent children dying by the thousands every single day...point to the conclusion that there is no god.

Maybe what you meant was that there is no proof that god doesn't exist?

In answer to that I'd ask you to google Carl Sagan's parable of the Invisible Fire Breathing Dragon in My Garage. That will tell you how any ridiculous and even absurd claim...like your god, for example...is hard to disprove.
