by the time there is any significant loss of human life, we will have already have reached the threshold. Global warming is a self-catalyzing process. A lot of light is redirected back into space by the ice caps, the more the ice-caps melt, the less light is redirected, the faster the earth warms up, the more the ice-caps melt, and so on...

So in essence, the more we let global warming take affect, the harder it is to reverse.

What he's saying is that not all of Al Gore's pristine little charts match up perfectly. Charts which don't even record more than the last century or so mind you. There have been times in Earth's history that showed everything from ice ages, to a tropical/desert climate over 2/3rds of the earth's terrain. Life will adapt like it always has.
