CreateDebate is a social debate community built around ideas, discussion and democracy.
If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.
To learn more about the CreateDebate scoring system, check out the FAQ.
When you are ready to voice your opinion, use the Add Argument button to create an argument.
If you would like to address an existing argument, use the Support and Dispute link within that argument to create a new reply.

What would you do, if you discovered the meaning to life.
Obviously this is under the assumption that their is one. Argue under that basis. If you do not believe in a meaning to life, either argue as if you do, or do not argue.
Please explain in some detail what you would do if you happened upon that knowledge and your reasons for doing it.
I know it says not to add a argument if I don't believe in a meaning of life, but I'm confused as to how anyone could just "find" one in the first place. Fortune cookie maybe?
Well since the meaning, if it exists, is not know. Who knows how it could be found. perhaps an epiphany, maybe even yes a fortune cookie. Maybe someone else found it first, and decided to give it to one lucky customer who ordered the low mein rice that day.
That's just my point. You couldn't know. Even if it was right, and you knew it, you would have no way of knowing, let alone anyone else believing you if you decided to tell them.
You're over thinking it. The idea is that you've been presented with information, that whatever it may be, you strongly believe it is the meaning to life. The debate simply asks what you would do with that information.
If you feel the specific meaning would be important to what you would do with it, then include than in your answer. Nothing changes, since the meaning to life, if it exists, has not been discovered yet...
Not really. As an open ended debate, that was always on the table. If you felt that mentioning the meaning of life (your meaning) was important, then that was always an option. Hence the reason I didn't add a pseudo meaning for you to debate around.
If I did make up a meaning to life, say I said it was to kill everything and be number one, that would influence the arguments greatly. I left it open so that I could get your perspectives entirely. Pertaining to this issue that is.
I stand by my point, that its a stupid question, because you can't react to something that isn't there, and that you can't know how you're going to react to something if you don't know what it is.
Look. All I'm asking is that you answer the debate, or get out. I've clarified your doubts, yet instead of taking them as the answers you seek, you've called fault to them, and then being insulting my debate as a whole.
The point you stand by is not an answer to the debate. So do you want to answer the debate or not?
I did answer the debate. The answer is "I don't know what I'd do and know one knows what they'd possibly do, unless their presumed meaning of life is correct."
It does not have to be 'correct' is simply has to be believed by you to be true. With that said, it could be literally anything.
The meaning to life is eat fish tacos, I sincerely believe this to be true. With this information I would open a fish taco restaurant to make a killing. An obviously silly example, but just something to get your mind working in the right direction.
"I don't know because I don't know if it's true or not", is directly against the debate's premise. The premise being, that you found what you believe to be the meaning to life.
I've already stated that the premise is their, it's a natural assumption, that if I did not provide you with a meaning to life, your own was applicable.
I would try to find a way to market the knowledge. I really can't say anything more specific than that, as the marketing angle would be entirely dependent on what the meaning actually is. It's possible it won't be marketable at all, even if it IS the meaning of life.
I just had this discussion with pro logos (if you could call it a discussion) the meaning of life, if you feel stating it would influence your answer, should be typed. So by all means if you have something you believe could be the meaning, that would be appreciated, and how you plan on marketing it.
You misunderstand. I believe that whatever the meaning of life turned out to be would dictate how I would answer, how I could market it, etc.
I do not have any speculation to offer regarding what the meaning of life actually is, if there even is one.
Looking through the rest of the debate, I have to agree with ProLogos in that there is a bit of a dissonance between the wording of the debate and the type of responses you are looking for. I mean no offense by this, mind you. I just don't believe that we've both had the exact same misinterpretation here- rather, I believe you may have miscommunicated what you were looking for. Perhaps you should reword the subject/description of this debate, perhaps something along the line of two questions, such as "1) What do you believe the meaning of life to be? 2) What would you do if you found this to be true?"
I have already discovered the meaning to life, I just don't think there is A meaning to life. If I were to drop a ball, (whether by accident or intentionally) the meaning of that ball being dropped would be for that ball to fall, to hit the ground, and bounce back up, and to keep bouncing until it eventually stops. The meaning to dropping a ball is for that ball to drop, the meaning of life is to live. Their is a subtle difference between purpose, meaning, and significance to me.
The whole goal of life is to make you wish you were dead.
This is easier to explain if you think of life as a person. People have goals. The whole goal of life is to make you wish you were dead. It does this by slowly aging you, making life more and more difficult, less and less enjoyable, until you just raise your hands up in the air and shout, "Take me now!!!" Life is pretty much a troll ;)
Maybe the problem is not life itself. Maybe the problem is with all the ass holes we share this planet with. Think about it. We developed the atom bomb 20 years BEFORE color television. People's priorities are all screwed up. I mean, you come to a site like this one to argue and fight with people about and then you get someone like me leaving smileys all over the freaking place. And just to add insult to injury, that person happens to have 34 thousand points!!!! WTF? ;)
WTH else, I'm not here to come up with some witty philosophical answer that's going to stand out to everyone else's response and get lots of up/downvotes.
Die. By the time you have figured it out, there is no time to do anything about it. What would be the point of living if you already know the answer? As humans we need to continually search for answers from outside sources and within. It is human nature.
