When should the human fetus have rights? Tell me your belief.
I say at 20 weeks after conception, because he or she cannot survive earlier.
A fetus is a separate living entity at the moment of conception. It should have the rights of such an entity at this time. Which right includes the right to life. I do not believe the mother, or the father, have the right to murder a child, regardless of the child's age or state of development. Children are innocent, and the life of an innocent is worth more than the life of any another. If it was meant to die, it would have died naturally, not because someone desired to kill it. 1

I hear it has been theorized to be most likely between the 27th to 30th week (7 - 8 months). Though it could be possible, but I think it is supposed to be highly unlikely as scientists are more certain about the former, that is could be as early as the 22nd week (5 and a half months). So, I try to stay out of debates like this, but since I was asked I will respond. 1. Once conception occurs, you have a "whole" living creature. 2. That creature matures over time and eventually becomes independent 3. I don't believe independence is needed for rights to exist 4. I think rights occur once conception occurs But, I believe the mother's rights are more important at that time. I also think the father's rights are more important. Here is my only dilemma... If the father wants to abort the fetus and the mother doesn't, does the father have the ability to opt out of the responsibility for the child? 2

If the father wants to abort the fetus and the mother doesn't, does the father have the ability to opt out of the responsibility for the child? I would think that is ideal. Since the mother can decide whether or not the baby is born, it is more her responsibility than the father, though if the father doesn't want her to abort it he should stay with her because the baby is still his responsibility. 1
