Birds as an entire group are amazing. They can fly (which at least among the higher orders of animals is relatively rare), they pretty much all build, they pretty much all communicate through song, some are capable of making and using simple tools (like crows). Many of them are extremely attractive. Most are among the fastest creatures in their environments. They're effective hunters, and scavengers, and can act both individually or as a flock. Some migrate enormous distances and with remarkable group organization and precision. They have populated and thrived on every continent and in every extreme condition.

And as someone else pointed out in a recent debate, you might want to say the bird is the word.
