Which are you attracted to more?

When looking for someone to start a relationship with, do you pay attention more to their looks or their personality?

Well, to be honest, I'm attracted by looks. But I need a good personality to hold on to that attraction. Looks are like bait on a hook and a good personality would be like me giving up and getting reeled in. A bad personality would be like fighting the fisherman and escaping ASAP. ;)

I would love to be able to support the personality side here, but I feel compelled to argue that good looks are mostly responsible for generating the opportunity for the true power of personality to be expressed and respected.

Conclusion: Personality will always be the most powerful driving force in a relationship, but good looks are mostly responsible for creating the initial attraction.

Bottom Line: Fully agree with MKIced

when looking... Looks obviously - while getting to know,,, personality takes over. If there is no personality to be found the great looks become flat and uninteresting (although still pretty) and other lookers become more mysterious and attractive.

So no one should envy a looker with no personality for they get picked up like candy and dumped like garbage in an endless emotional rollocoster

To get me to find out if the girl has a good personality she has to look good. I'm not about to go and ask a homeless woman at the bus stop out just because she struck up a lovely conversation and seems nice enough.

I mean its not all about looks but if she looks like a disheveled mess then I will not be attracted to her.

Both factor in, but personality factors in far more. I've met plenty of moderately attractive people who suddenly increased or decreased their initial impression of sexiness by a factor of at least ten via the simple act of opening their mouths. That can totally re-weight the scales from "hi, whatever" to "hot damn!" -- or from "hot damn" to "well crap, never mind."

Initially it might be looks but I've found that people with great personalities become cute after a while. It might be a smile or a look but they actually become better looking through that personality.

Beauty fades. If you want to get into a relationship and expect it to last, don't enter it on superficial terms.

I beg to differ. Beauty doesn't fade. Youth does. Beautiful people tend to stay beautiful, especially if they keep healthy, their looks simply mature. And the fact of the matter, we are friends with people who have good personalities. We don't marry them.

I'd have to go with personality. Looks fade over time, but personality lasts a long time.
