While developing religious beliefs, excessive trust is more likely to produce false beliefs.

Excessive doubt or skepticism is attributed to people who really are just too lazy to form an opinion.

Just my initial thoughts

obviously the answer is excessive trust

this is most true and relevant if one examines Christianity especially fundamentalist Christianity

Why so? Why Christians more than some other sect?

the foundation of fundamentalist Christianity if that of "faith"

and this is simply defined believing something without the need for supporting facts, evidence, etc.

as a consequence when these untested beliefs run contrary to facts, evidence, etc. there is a conflict

for example, it was Catholic Church fundamentalist faith/belief that the sun rotated around the earth. even though this was later disproved by science the Church refused to acknowledge the truth and went as far to even place scientist on trial and jail scientist

for a more recent example, i site you the 2008 Republican candidates debate. when they were asked about evolution, the Repub candidates raised their hands and expressed disbelief about evolution

First correct me on this.

By excessive trust, do you mean the problems in people blindly following their religion? Or do you mean somebody who will follow their religious ideals till no end i.e. Jehova's Witness not accepting blood donation (or something like that) on the basis that following their faith will ultimately lead to their/mankind's benefit

By excessive doubt do you mean somebody who will never take religion no matter the values and views and maybe realism?

I think it's fair to include both of those scenarios under the umbrella of excessive trust related behavior.

I honestly don't think excessive doubt causes too many problems. What exactly do you mean by "take religion" ?

I don't know why, but I can't really get my head around the 'excessive doubt' part. Can you give me a couple of scenarios because I really can't get this part screwed in.

IVE GOT IT!!!

Too much distrust in society - This new scheme in the UK where every adult who officially works with a child has to register to the government. Where people don't trust anybody else and can't take them for face value etc. (I hope you're getting the picture)

The problem with this, is that it's society and not religiously... BUT it could be due to the lack of religion...
