Which country will win the most medals in the 2008 Summer Olympics?

Will the US continue to dominate?
↑ Hide Debate Description

The 2008 Summer Olympics start on August 8, 2008 in Beijing, China. In 2004 the US had the most medals with 102, followed by Russia with 92 and China with 63. Which country do you think will have the most medals this time around?

I think the US will continue it's dominance of the Olympic games. The "Redeem Team" looks unstoppable on the basketball front, Michael Phelps is essentially a dolphin swimming against minnows, and our Track and Field team is likely to continue the era of domination. I don't think any other country will even come close.

True, but I think Jamaica has the 100m and 200m (and potentially the equivalent 4x relays) in the bag - they are the traditional big T & F events.

The team that can compete at a high level while breathing toxic fumes will do the best.

I'm curious to see how well China performs. Usually the home country does particularly well. How do you think the US would react if China won more medals?

I think the US would go ballistic if China won more medals! I too am curious to see how the Chinese perform this year. Beijing will erupt if they can take the most Gold and/or the most overall medals. From everything I've read I'm going to go out on a limb and predict thusly:

1. China

2. USA

3. Japan

4. Russia

yes china definitely and sorry i don't think the us would be next in line. Australia also not very good. Jamaica and Kenya have a good chance as well as japan. they are really strong.
