It's a trick question. Indifference isn't even a feeling, it's the absence of feeling.

Ellie Wiesel says indifference but I disagree. Love is an active emotion that takes thought to make itself known. Hate is also an active emotion that takes thought to make itself known, yet it causes opposite reactions than love. Seems opposite enough to me.

Indifference on the other hand is a non feeling, if any. I feel indifference to the end of the world. it's going to happen, I know that, I don't hate or love it since it won't affect me, I just feel nothing about it.

Side: Hate

Then again, you could love and hate a person at the same time. So although hatred may be the opposite of love, that does not mean that if you hate someone you can't love them as well.

How is this an argument for hate being the opposite of indifference? You have simply stated that love and hate can go together sometimes.

I wasn't arguing that hate is the opposite of indifference. I didn't even mention indifference in my argument. I was just offering my opinion on this side of the debate because there was no middle ground, and it made more sense for hate to be the opposite of love than indifference.

Like a couple of people have said indifference is the absence of feeling. Love and hate are very strong feelings, love being a positive feeling and hate being a negative one. Positives and negatives are opposite so hate must be the opposite of love. I would say that indifference is more of a neutral state.

Side: Hate

Hard to say... for the most part I think it is indifference. This could change though depending on what your definition of love is.

Side: Indifference

Love is a strong feeling of caring and indifference is not caring.
