The aim of an entire category of science is medical its devoted entirely to the development of medication so of course science that's one of its functions unlike religion who's focus is to save souls and provide moral structure to people's life's . That being said the development of many cures and treatments to majore desiesses have been funded in large amounts by charity's run by religious organizations.
religion who's focus is to save souls and provide moral structure
I've never seen empirical proof for soul also "moral structure" so people without religions simply kills and eats each other? You need bronze age myth collection to not to kill random people? If so th you need help from professional.
hat being said the development of many cures and treatments to major desiesses have been funded in large amounts by charity's run by religious organizations.
...runned by same religious organisations that banned science for 900 years, started pretty much all wars ever happen? Really?
First of all I never said there was no morality without religion I just meant that its a source of morals for many people.
And wars are caused for many reasons religion yes but also, land, resources (the most common cause), superiority complex, etc.
the fact of the matter is the majority of the charity's funding research for cures and treatments for cancer (all forms), diabetes, aids, etc. are run by religious organizations primarily the Vatican.
Largest charity is provided by Bill Gates and he an Atheist, majority of large charities are run by government or private non religious companies and foundations. Medical research is funded by countries not by religious groups especially moderns stuff like biological or genome therapy, cell stem research etc..., ...
very few charities are actually run by religious groups and they are usually terrible forcing people to convert and pray "or there may not be enough for them..." (common practice in Eastern Europe, Africa and South America)
Vatican runs "missions" and their only purpose is to convert poor people for exchange for food.
Vatican is pro AIDS, they are strictly against condoms and frequently tells people in Africa in Public speeches to not to use them otherwise you will end up in hell, even in places with the highest concentration of AIDS in whole world.
Not even Nazisms, Communism and Plague combined haven't done so much damage to humanity as Christianity did.
The Vatican pours billions into poor regions of the world to feed the Hungary, heal the sick, cloth the naked, and save the lost. And you say they do damage? You are heartless. the Vatican contributes billions of Dollars to AIDs research and much of the money given to the church by the faithful has gone to cancer research. Christianity is striving to solve humanity's problems both physical and spiritual.
Christianity is the main cause of problems. They have banned all human rights, science, literature for more than 1000 years. Pretty much all wars were started or fully supported by the Vatican for percentage from prey. They have actively participate on countless genocides.
Where do you think they get their "billions"? From selling Indulgences, mass blackmailing by "ending in hell" if no property will be written to them in testamentary. Active support of slavery for percentage from profit. Violent conversion trough the Europe followed by 10% tax of everything produced. Everyone who said anything against church or flat Earth was publicly executed. Banned education from general public, you had to became priest or be super rich to be allowed schooling. Mass witch hunts under lead of local bishops. Raping kids covered by bishops trough the whole world. all of this for about thousand years ...
in more recent times... Open support for Nazism. Establishing ratlines for Nazi criminals to get to the south America. Exorcism on mentally ill children. With 1.5 crimes per citizen, Vatican City has the highest crime rate in the world. Money laundering for Drug Cartels and terrorists. Vatican receives about 12 000 000 000$ from Italian state every year, so all their activities are pretty much funded by Italian government by they do not operate like standard professional charity (Bill Gates charity, Hearth Foundation,etc...) they force their religious views upon the "help recipients". Children rapes covered by local Bishop whom were instructed to do so from Vatican (check Vatileaks). None of their many pedophile priests were excommunicated they were moved to the different cities to continue.
Your information is false and provided by bias websites I know vatileaks its an anti-Catholic website. The Catholic Church had nothing to do with the nazis, holocaust, or rat lines, the rat lines where set up by nazi supporters in Europe, America, and South America. The holocaust was a state secret no one knew about it except the nazis. The crusades were the only wars officially sanctioned by the Vatican and they were defensive conflicts agains Islam. Got any more bull shit arguments for me to destroy.
The nazis used religion as propaganda they created a occult in Germany that blended Christianity and paganism look up nazi occult the history Chanel has even done specials about it. Pope John Paul apologized because some Catholic officials in Germany supported the nazis as did the rest of Germany. But there's no proof that the Vatican supported hitler. And in the early years of scientific development people didn't know what it was all they had as a point of reference was story's of dark magic so that's what people thought it was. Uncertainty breeds fear. Fear breeds violence.
Norman Borlaug, the man who saved a billion lives from starvation.
Borlaug received his Ph.D. in plant pathology and genetics from the University of Minnesota in 1942. He took up an agricultural research position in Mexico, where he developed semi-dwarf, high-yield, disease-resistant wheat varieties.
During the mid-20th century, Borlaug led the introduction of these high-yielding varieties combined with modern agricultural production techniques to Mexico, Pakistan, and India. As a result, Mexico became a net exporter of wheat by 1963. Between 1965 and 1970, wheat yields nearly doubled in Pakistan and India, greatly improving the food security in those nations.[5] These collective increases in yield have been labeled the Green Revolution, and Borlaug is often credited with saving over a billion people worldwide from starvation.
Religion itself, I think the most it has done in terms of 'curing' people is by telling them comforting fantasies so that they can go on in life. It almost certainly has no tangible effect through 'faith healing' or 'prayer', that isn't a placebo effect.
In terms of people cured and lives saved, science wins without question in my opinion. I could probably find more sources, but this is probably my best one.
is this a completion of citation from fictional books & and movies? I like the "It's a trap!" :D ...from Star wars ...off course bronze age mythology isn't bad either :D
I don't see Satan as a bad guy, according to bible he killed "just" 10 people, god about several millions ... so god is a mass murder ...and mass murders usually aren't truth speakers, so it looks like that the Satan is actually the good guy.
Sir, im afraid the concept of God's morality is a different topic.
It is also pretty much so overused its practically impossible to create any original arguments about it. Id rather not touch an arguement if I cannot learn anything new from it
God create hell,so we could prove God that we are worth going to heaven, why didnt he/she/whatever just invent perfect people and place them straight in heaven, doesn't trust it's own invention, maybe religion is a placebo effect, your told it's the spirit but it was a sugar pill.
See, now I don't know if you're a theist or atheist. If you meant that religion has made people insane then yes, tis true. If you're just terrible at spelling and meant religion had cured people of their insanity then.......
I am utterly disapointed at how people classify the healings of Religion as something physical and illogical.
Tell me, when in doubt, where do people flee?
When in chaos, who does people turn to?
Heck, how many prisoners, soldiers and even patients turns to the cross?
Religion was never meant to heal the physical being, but the patients mental state. People call it as "God Drug" but is there a problem in seeking comfort?
I can't disagree that mentally people find religion helpful, but the question is which has cured more. Science has helped both mental and physical ailments. And continues to find more cures. Religion only has mental advantages, and it won't work on all people.
Aparently, you do not realize that just like Science, Religion has grown and changed to adapt itself to the demands and needs of the society.
True that science can provide medicines for mental illness, but can you provide comfort for elders who are about to die? Will you tell them that they will die without anyone to remember them? That nothing awaits them in their deaths?

I would argue that, that isn't really "curing" anyone, as there are other ways to comfort elders prior to death. However whether or not this is a valid point, doesn't show how religion has cured more people. Even if their is one thing religion can do that nothing else can, in curing people, science still has cured more people.
We cant say that religious only has mental advantages, as science is also created bby humans who in past where used to believe in religious things, when science was not existing , this religious beliefs was helping us, so how we can compare science and religion, we cant compare anything, we can just respect things because every one has given us many things and we have acknowledge it. saurbaby....its both..helpful...for me.
"seeking comfort" in bronze age bullshit instead of facing reality... yeah I don't think so...it kills you.
During floods and hurricanes there are churches full of dead men, women and children who were "seeking comfort" instead of building rafts or waving on helicopters...
The 'Cross'? Who said Christianity, we're talking bout religion in general. And yes people turn to religion, but does it actually cure them of illnesses?! No, it doesn't, because there is no God. Science throughout the ages has helped heal people with methods that work! You can "seek comfort" all you won't through religion, you won't find and real help! Only a delusion made up by your mind because you can't cope with the fact that, in truth, there is no God.
The main use of religion is to provide sanctuary to those who are confused and suffering mentally. Can science cure you out of problems such as the fear of meaningless death, breaking family and fading sanity?
You can try alcohol but, your old enough to know its a bad idea
Oh, forgive me for not being such an imbecile, I can trick myself in to believing in something completely fantastical to make me feel better about death. Since when has religion cured cancer, aids, herpes, cholera, ear infections, gangrene e.t.c. It hasn't, it has given people false hope. Science, on the other hand, has, or is helping to combat all diseases.
..? Well, I think I won that. Perhaps you misread the debate title? Religion has cured, fuck all! How has religion cured peoples mental state? By tricking them in to believing in something false? Giving false hope? Oh brilliant, yes that's just what everyone needs.
There is a difference between "Fools Hope" and "Pacifying Assurance"
There are plenty of troubles that cannot be solve, merely endured. Without the pacifying effects of religion, the patient will have to turn their stress into something else like violence or alcohol (e.g prisoners, elders, patients of major diseases)
Heck, during times of trouble and crisis, it is religion that maintains the society whole, or at least prevents if from falling apart
Wrong. Religion is the thing that is dividing society. I know it's nice to be able to say " I live in a multiethnic village, it's so cosy and nice!" But in reality, it doesn't work. All these different frames of minds all brainwashing you to think different things? There's going to be a clash.
Religion has united the world when problems arrive. It was religion that the state didnt collapse during the Black Death and Spanish Flue and any other apocalyptical tragedies. Heck, religion even plays a major role in keeping the morale of troops during war.
Clash of ideals is a normal thing as even siblings and couples has it.
Please, do stop saying heck it's really rather irritating. 'Heck' is something one says, you don't write it down. No wonder you're so kept in the dark about religion..! Religion helping people?? Oh I suppose religion was right to kill thousands for being heretics, or witches, burned at the stake. I suppose we should thank religion for the crusades and the thousands who died there. Again, for the millions who have died throughout every war of religions there has been. You know what, I assume you're American, so I'll give something you'll like. Religion is to blame for 9/11. So seeing as that's all you ever talk about, that must mean something to you, surely?? And I don't think siblings and couples stab each other and their neighbors because they both have different ideology. And GOD I can't get over that phrase you used, "religion has united the world when problems arrive." Jesus it's like a big slap in the face of common sense. These problems have arisen because of religion, because people all have different ideas and are willing to fight others to defend their silly superstitions.
Because of religion, people have been fighting and killing for thousands of years. Because of religion, millions upon millions have died needlessly. All because they believe in something, and don;t agree if someone else believes in something different. I could give you a list of examples of how religion has killed people through the ages, but I don't think there is enough room here to put it down...
While it is inspiring to say that facing your problems is better than escaping, you have failed to understand that the very reason why people are depressed is because they cannot escape from it
Research was sponsored by religious societies, I met similar before. Especial catholic church is really good at that. I remember that their census showed up that 72% of Czech Rep. population are Catholics. State census showed up that it's actually about 6%. You should also read some "papers" from Vatican's Astronomers :D
I suppose that you are to give a link that proves that the sponsors of "S. Kasen of the Department of Psychiatry" was a religious society. And that their research is flawed.
P.S
Your report of corrupted census is interesting, I would like to hear the whole story, please provide the link
I suppose that you are to give a link that proves that the sponsors of "S. Kasen of the Department of Psychiatry" was a religious society. And that their research is flawed.
Just ask for materials, it's always same. S. Kasen is a creationist often giving lectures for "The Institute for Creation Research" who is known for "supporting" research of this kind with always same outcomes...
Corrupted census and Catholic church are synonyms. I don't think so that there is a relevant article anywhere in English lang. They also did around 2009 "census" between High school students and as usually there are 78% Catholics and rest are christian without specific denomination. As usual showed up that census has been done only on 4 high schools ...all of them were private Catholic High schools, done by priests, no anonymity what so ever...
It's quite difficult to find some articles in English, especially census frauds done in Czech Rep. Even if someone has translated them to the English if I don't know the new title of it I cannot find it. Link I sent you was about census frauds done by catholic church. I tried to use Google translate but the output was a complete BS.
Yahoo answers is useless because you don't know background of the answer given to you.
According to Yahoo Answers (who used translators) your links was about the census of the Church and of how they doubt their own count because they have no way of telling how many fell from faith.
Im sorry, but it is far from you claim: "I remember that their census showed up that 72% of Czech Rep. population are Catholics. State census showed up that it's actually about 6%."
Also, I just searched for "S Kasen and cretionism". I found no link that says that S. Kasen is sponsored by religious organizations.
Please stop your denial already. Be a man and admit your lies
I have to go trough many papers in short time and I do Theoretical physics and Astrophysics so there are many papers that are bullshit made by creationists, so I've developed a method how to simply spot creatards and papers with weirdo backgrounds...
Well In middle school when I was bullied relentlessly and struggled with depression as a result I took comfort in my faith and pride in my performance in my dutys at church helping teach our Sunday school program or CCD as we called it.
it does not uses metaphors only people like you tries to convince others to think that because it would make it look less retarded.
remember how long ago it was written --old means that it can be a bullshit? What about how many times it was rewritten "translated"...etc?
There are things that are beyond our ability to comprehend --- and I assume that makes the room for magic? I think that there is a term for it already. "God of the gaps".
Zeus comes by every thursday and brings me soup amd sometimes a toasted ham and cheese sandwich. Sometimes Jesus comes too and sits at the table with some Hindu gods and Horus and Osirus rarely come because the hate Jesus. Yep religions/magic is truly gonna save you. Especially since they never reveal themselves or have any proof that they are there.
Both science and religions can cure people who suffer from diseases. However,in my opinion, if you always have faith and confidence in God, miracles will happen even without any high tech medical devices or medicines.Science did cure people but at the same time, science killed people too.We should not always depend on science, because nothing is greater than God.
