Wow, you've created a debate I'm actually in agreement with. White privilege is definitely a scapegoat. Instead of taking personal responsibility for not finding success, it's instead blamed on some apparent privilege we have. The only thing that will prevent a person from succeeding in life is making bad decisions. I don't care if you're born into a poor black home; make good decisions and good things can happen.

I agree that making good decisions helps, but it is not that simple. If you are born into a privileged home, you have a head start from those born into a non privileged home. It's like having one person start ten meters from the finish line, and the other twenty. Sure, they can reach the end if they work hard, and they absolutely should try, but for the person starting at ten meters to claim they had to work just as hard is frankly offensive and outright stupid.

I don't completely agree, but "white privilege" isn't even used as an excuse for why things take more effort, but instead as an excuse for why some people can't achieve the same things at all. The reason I don't agree is because of the assumption the privilege exists because we are white. Some white people are born into low income families and some blacks are born into upper income families. Race is not the deciding factor.

In this cut and thrust world privilege has to be earned.

No one gives a 'hanger on' a break regardless of their ethnic grouping.

Success doesn't flourish on privilege.

If a society chooses to elevate the privileged classes, from whatever ethnic group, instead of promoting on merit then it is doomed to failure.

Those with such qualities as innovation, ambition, determination, ability to make practical use of knowledge and a strong work ethic will invariably rise to the top.

When the lazy and not so bright realise that they've lost out in the lottery of life they blame their self imposed plight on the 'privileged whites'.

I note that the White and Asian peoples of the world are usually successful either in their home countries or in the societies which they have adopted as home.

That leaves one major ethnic group at the bottom of the pecking order.

To say privilege has to be earned goes against the very definition of privilege. (https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/privilege) It is defined as a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group of people. You say that white privilege is a term used by people who are at the bottom of society because of their own shortcomings, but as we can all agree the majority of people in power are white (Just look at congress), so that makes your idea inherently racist, saying that natural white people are superior to other races. "When the lazy and not so bright realize that they've lost out in the lottery of life they blame their self imposed plight on the 'privileged whites." This quote implies that the people who are lazy and not so bright are all other races. I don't know if you actually believe that, but if not you should be more careful with word choice. You are right that hard work gets you far in life, but some people have to work less hard than others because of what they were born to, unfortunately that includes the skin color they were born into. You may be angry because you had to work hard in life despite being white and experienced no "White Privilege" but if you have never been stopped by the police solely because of the color of your skin, if you have never had your parents tell you not to wear a hoodie in public because you might look sketchy, you have privilege whether you admit it or not.
