Well, Beatles are likely the most influential Rock Band... but Elvis changed it in a huge way and came first. So there's an argument there.
I think though if it were not for Blues neither American nor British rockers would have existed, so America had "the biggest influence in rock and roll."
I like the way you think iamdavidh, especially when it agrees with my thinking, LOL Seriously, you nailed it in your comment and I believe neither the American or British rock could have evolved without the early Blues. Thanks so much for your great post and opinion! :)
If the Blues is the biggest influence on Rock "N" Roll (i'm not arguing with you there, original Rock "N" Roll was basically speeded up Blues) then neither America nor Britain can take the credit, Blues is based on African rythms and was brought to America by the African Slaves, so on that basis either Africa or the Netherlands (Dutch Settlers brought the first African Slaves to America) would have to take the credit
You were saying America is the biggest influence on Rock "N" Roll because of the Blues but the Blues is based on African music so on that basis Africa is the biggest influence on Rock "N" Roll
Noooo! They became African Americans even though they were brought here involuntarily and their music evolved into what is the blues after they were on American land... Therefore it was America in the narrow view of that scenario that gets the credit.
LOL!! You're very welcome!! And fortunately for me (but maybe not for you, hehe!) I'm almost always able to fill my posts with loads, and load of useless rubbish!! :)
Both countries have had some amazing rock bands but I'll go with America because of our influence on the world. We get more music out there... would the Beatles have become as huge as they did if they never came to America? I doubt it.
I agree, both countries have made a huge contribution to rock music, and being American, I'd have to go with our country also. Especially because so many British bands like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and people like Eric Clapton were influenced by very early American musicians like Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, etc. So take that, Brits, wherever you are!! LOL!!
Although both countries have made a huge contribution to rock music I'd still have to answer America. Especially because so many British bands like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and people like Eric Clapton were influenced by very early American musicians like Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, etc. But that's just my opinion, not that anyone's paying attention to it... Do I win my own Debate argument? LOL!
But that doesn't take from the great influence of America on Rock, I mean I love British bands, as you know, but my favorite band of all time is the Doors.
I also love Dylan, Gutherie, CCR, Jefferson Airplane, Santana (Mexican), Tool, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pearl Jam, Hendrix, Soundgarden, The Grateful Dead, G'n'R, Alice in Chains, this list goes on and on.
The Doors are truly one of the timeless American rock bands ever... It's just a shame Jim Morrison had to 'Break On Through' to the other side much too soon!! On the British front, Pink Floyd is another timeless band whose music never seems dated or irrelevant; they really were one of a kind, IMO! You've got an awesome taste in music from the bands you referenced, and that's not just because I like them all too:)
It's just a shame Jim Morrison had to 'Break On Through' to the other side much too soon!!
Kind of sealed his legend though, he got into the 27 club and now shares a home with Hendrix and Johnson, he probably would have fizzled out as a mad counter-culture reject.
On the British front, Pink Floyd is another timeless band whose music never seems dated or irrelevant; they really were one of a kind,
And Zeppelin IMO, and The Velvet Underground stateside.
You've got an awesome taste in music from the bands you referenced, and that's not just because I like them all too:)
Excellent choice, as always, my friend across the pond!! And now that you've set the mood so well, let's light up our incense, turn on our lava lamps, and put on our Hippie beads and listen to this classic... Because thanks to YouTube, The Music's Really Never Over! :)
That version has reminded of so many after parties I've been Djing at, everyone spent, all highs are now mellow I throw on some Parliament Funkadelic, some DJ Shadow followed by some Aphex twin and Autechre, Venus in Furs and then this sublime sleaze.
Love those Hammond keys on the intro Manzarek was genius That break down, is of the gods. We've got the sleaze now for some filth.
Ahhh, you're a DJ! No wonder you have such a wide range of musical taste and knowledge. And I love the selections you lined up and how you transitioned from the sublime sleaze to finish with frenzied filth... Not to mention the pictures your words paint, almost as beautiful as the music itself (except for maybe some of the Techno, LOL) Here's something to close 'The Doors' and bring it to 'The End' in a magical exit to ecstasy. I wish I could have found a decent live version, but this was the best I could do no thanks to YouTube! :)
One can't really follow on from a song like that (also we're suffering from tiny window syndrome again) still gives me goosebumps when I hear it today, I have to say I quite enjoy these sessions, it gives me a chance to listen to some epic tunes while I'm on here, something I strangely don't do normally.
Do you not like the electronic stuff? That's a shame, we could have gone down that road too, there isn't really any genre that I haven't found good music in. Till the next time...
Yes, The Doors are hard to follow behind, but your choice actually fit well!! Tool is from California where I live... I love the artistry of their videos and how the music builds and then, BOOM!! It drops on you like an atomic bomb! Very cool!! And no, electronic music is not among my favorite things, but fortunately there's endless other genres I love!! Hmmm, I wonder if the teeny, tiny window will let me fit a Man In The Box in there, special delivery all the way from here to there? I love this song!! Keep your chin up, either way! Your avatars make me smile, but how do you manage to shave without blinding yourself?? Not to mention all the hats you must go through, LOL :)
Ha ha, nice use of song title, class tune too. Yea tool are brilliant, Those videos are made by Adam Jones, the lead guitarist, as far as I know he works in CGI as well and worked with Cameron on The Abyss.
how do you manage to shave without blinding yourself?
I've a special Johnson & Johnson no tears razor.
Not to mention all the hats you must go through, LOL :)
If it makes your shit like acid, it's probably best to stick to it's intended use and not to drink it. To take your mind of your stinging ring, here's a bear kissing a cock.
OMG, LOL!! No, no!! L'Oreal is not to drink or you'll not only have a stinging ring, but one that's blowing bubbles out of it too, ha! It's another sort of tearless shampoo so you don't burn your eyes when you wash your whiskers, silly chin!! Whew, I have to say I was a bit squeamish on clicking that hyperlink word... In fact, I almost wigged out, hehe!!
There's something appealing about those innocuous blue words, you have to wonder what sort of mischief is going on behind them, but I'm glad you passed the test, and I hope your violently burned ring gets better, cos first you'd be all like , then you'd be all like, then you'd get some, and then you'd be all like. Meanwhile I'll be all like
LMAO!!! And then I'd be all like Johnny Cash humming this song all the while... Damn I hope that little man in the window/box cooperates and will let me post it, LOL!!
Oh no you didn't, Man in the window/box!! Just for that I'll post it on the British side!! I hope you follow the ring of fire and break on through to the other side Ricedaragh, LOL
Originally all of AC/DC were Australian when Bon Scott died they replaced him with Brian Johnson a Brit, Cliff Williams the Bassist is also a Brit, so the present line up is both Brits and Australians
Oh, I didn't notice they were there either? I did like the collaboration DMC did with Aerosmith, but really never was much of a DMC fan. I did/do like some of Eminem's stuff though... His words are pretty witty and clever, IMO.
Well, obviously the British have way better music, and have far better bands, however America did start the rock and roll era! No disputing that. Though personally, the Beatles and Rolling stones made the biggest influence!
Sorry what?! No forget the but personally bit, mistake! No the Beatles and rolling stones did make the biggest influence, so yeah the British! But America did start it all off. I think the Comits? Or the starlights..? Though it all started with jazz!
I have to disagree on some of your points... The early roots began with blues which was derived from music slaves brought to America from Africa. People like Muddy Waters, and Robert Johnson... Way earlier than the 50's sort of rock and roll you refer to like The Comets, etc. But having said that, I agree that The Beatles and The Stones brought it to a turning point and were the innovators of what followed in America and we now think of as classic rock.
You do know that's like the no-win argument. I'm going to say the British just to play the Devil's advocate. Rock and roll was build upon some of the early blues, R&B;and folk.
That could not have happened without the Americans, but clearly it was the British would took it to a whole other level. If you list the great bands of history ---not just the Bee'les and the Stones--- you'll see that the British influences outnumber the American influences like 2 to 1. Now, we're talking actual rock and roll now, not that Pop shit.
Honestly, I can't disagree with anything you've said. Our American influence may have been at the root of the sound, but the Brits did add sooo much more to it and made it truly rock to another level. And I agree, not the Pop garbage, I'm not giving Americans any credit for that crap, some other country can have credit for it, LOL!! :)
Very true and well-stated and I can't disagree with anything you've said. And believe me, I can usually always find something to disagree about, LOL Thanks for your input!! :)
This is one of those impossible to answer questions, traditional Rock "N" Roll was invented in America but when it comes to innovation i'd say both countries are on a par with each other
Take that you uncooperative man in the box/window, haha!! I hope you find this Ricedaragh... But maybe it's best you don't, and we just cool it for awhile, LOL
Are you seriously blaming me for the font size of a graphic I found on the internet? LOL!! Perhaps you'd be better served to take up your complaint with Google so they can track down the Phantom of the Font... It wasn't me:) p.s. Who was the biggest band you're referring to??
