Asimov is a genius. His concepts are brilliant. Card is a good author. His gift is in his storytelling.

Heinlein is a personal favorite, and there is good reason he was called "The Master". One caveat - he's not for the closed-minded, thin-skinned, or the moral minority. Special mention to Philip K. Dick. Nobody more thought-provoking, in my experience.

How about L Ron Hubbard? There's a whole lot of people who adamantly believe his science fiction is reality.

Asimov is great, as well as Card. I am also personally fond of John Varley.
