Definitely Bernie Sanders. Donald Trump will win the GOP, and will easily DESTROY Hillary Clinton by picking her apart from the core. She is backed by greedy corporations, and is a big-money "establishment" politician. Bernie Sanders is like Donald Trump in that he is not totally bought.

Bernie Sanders has fewer flaws. The only thing that Trump will be able to use against him is that he is a socialist.

Donald Trump will defeat the GOP, and will defiantly swindle Hillary Clinton by isolating her from the core. She is aided by investing businesses, and is a money producing governmental negotiator.

I just wanted to say, that Bernie Sanders is focusing on youth. Hillary and or Donald will destroy this country!

Side: Bernie Sanders

I still have faith that the establishment can crush this ridiculous populism that has appeared in both parties. Moderate republicans can get on board with Hillary, especially the war hawks. So if they are given a choice between Hillary and Trump, they can choose Hillary. If it is Cruz vs Hillary, Clinton will win because he is too far right to win over independents.

Progressives have drunk the purple koolaid with this Bernie campaign. It's a pipe dream, and thankfully so. His programs are fanciful, not only economically but politically. The Democratic Party would only lose power by shifting back to the left. Republicans currently hold the senate and house by a large margin. None of his legislation would pass. Anything and everything he would put forward would be sabotaged by both parties.

How exactly is populism ridiculous? That literally means theyre doing and saying what the people want. Bernies positions are wildly popular among every demographic. If given the choice between Hillary and Trump whats gonna happen? Trump is going to HAMMER her on her record of taking big money contributions from wall street even harder than Bernie has. All he has to do is set up the dichotomy that shes corrupt and hes not. And thats a very easy dichotomy for him to set up. If its bernie vs trump what is he gonna say? That bernie takes big money? He doesnt. Truth is its a lot harder to argue against Bernies stances because theyre very popular and very genuine and he doesnt have a shit record weighing him down.

His programs are fanciful? What exactly is fanciful about wanting healthcare as a right for all people? What is fanciful about raising the minimum wage and regulating wallstreet? Weve done both those things in the recent past. Odds are the democratic party will gain power by electing Sanders as the nominee because theres good reason to believe that many seats in the house and senate will also fall to Sanders-esque characters or at least democrats because of his popularity. Sanders knows how to play politics. If he comes out with a bill that would raise the minimum wage, something even 80% of republicans favor and it gets blocked hes gonna come out to the people and say "hey these fuckers are not representing you" and their political careers will be jeopardized. People are getting VERY tired of the republican obstructionism in congress and if that persisted into a Sanders presidency there would be a significant push back against them. And even if he does have to concede some things to either party, he is still gonna get more done than hillary. Because all of hillarys stances are already concessions to the right. She starts in the middle. And no matter what you do your proposal will be pulled to the right. So if you start in the middle you end up with right wing policies getting passed. Bernie starts from the far left meaning that when he has to wheel and deal youre only gonna get pulled toward center left and not all the way to the right. Hes gonna end up passing what Hillary wants to pass right now and Hillary isnt gonna get any of it passed. Furthermore, Hillary is gonna get something passed then give up. Shes gonna pass a college affordability bill then never speak of the issue again. Bernie is gonna pass the same bill then continue to hammer bill after bill through congress continuing to build on that progress and work toward his actual goals of college tuition for public institutions.

Populism is ridiculous because our constitution was very carefully crafted to not give the people what they want. It's why we don't vote for Supreme Court justices, why we didn't originally elect senators, why we have the electoral college, and more fundamentally why we have representatives instead of deciding law by plebiscite. Our constitution was crafted to give the people what was good for them, not what they wanted. The art of a great statesmen is saying 'no' to the people, not 'yes'. Of course, realistically, the constitution obviously has concessions to the establishment that we have been slow to correct but the point still stands: purely democratic or constitution is not and for good reason.

You think the solution to republican obstructionism is to make less comprising proposals? You think you win more seats by shifting away from the middle? You must not remember the crushing defeats suffered by democrats at the hands of Reagan and Bush Sr. Democrats had to shift to the center in response to the popular revolt against big government. Even Bill Clinton said the era of big government is over. If you shift left you will lose, maybe not in this election since Trump is probably unelectable in a general election, but you will lose in congress and in future presidential elections when the Republicans get their shit together.

Where are these Sander-esque characters for this election? They need to start campaigning. I strongly doubt that they will take away seats from republican candidates by being more leftist. The usual response to a loss is to go to the center.

Sanders does not know how to play politics. He is a lousy debater, he is too ideological for compromise, and he has very few allies in congress to back his policies. Sanders will not be able to tell the people anything because all media outlets are hostile to him and almost every special interest will be spreading the opposite message. Even if some republicans get kicked out for "not representing the people" they will be replaced by the same type of politicians that are able to make convincing false promises in the election.

I wouldn't worry about Hillary losing the general election. She would definitely do better than Sanders. Moderate republicans can stomach Hillary but not likely Sanders. I admire your idealism. You remind me of the Ron Paul fans, but just like them, you're gonna be disappointed. It's for the best. We need moderation, not extremism.
