Jimmy played faster and more notes... Jimi did create a new style (not really, but popularized it) of playing guitar. I like the Zep way more than Hendrix, but i still like Hendrix. but after listening to both on the guitar play, Jimmy really did play a lot better. Side: Jimmy Page
Given these two I would say Hendrix but the answer is more complicated than that. I think Danny Gatton was the best ever. Hendrix was perhaps the most innovative and did more things that no one else was doing. Innovation is a valid test for being "best" in my opinion, as is technical execution. When Hendrix came up, other awesome guitarists would sit an disguise and just watch him play in amazement. Same with Gatton. Page by comparison was a "lesser god". He was the least of the Yardbird's trio and really doesn't belong in this comparison. No disrespect to him but if we are limiting it to two, he doesn't make the cut, probably not the top ten. Way ahead of Page on my list would be guys like Andres Segovia, Chet Atkins, Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery, Clapton, James Burton, Mike Bloomfield, Roy Buchanon, Link Wray and T-Bone Burnett and of course Gatton..
