Who should I vote for in the 2008 Illinois 10th District House of Representatives Race?

Daniel Seals (D)

Side Score: 7
VS.

Mark Kirk (R)

Dan Seals will help to bring a responsible end to the war in Iraq, a war for which Mark Kirk helped to draft the resolution. Mark Kirk refuses to put his party affiliation or any information about the war on his website. He is hiding from the truth, and his votes have moved to the left since he nearly lost in 2006. He claims to be a "thoughtful, independent leader", but how independent can the assistant minority whip for the Republican party. He recently voted against the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would have guaranteed equal pay for equal work for women. He has voted over and over again with President Bush, and must be held accountable.

Dan Seals will be the leadership that the tenth district deserves. He will be a real "thoughtful" leader who represents the views of his district.

Seals supports strengthening the US energy policy through tighter legislation, such as the recent increase in CAFE standards last summer. By influencing energy reform through Washington and focusing on details like fluorescent light bulbs and hybrid technology, Seals hopes to bring America's focus back onto the environment and conservation, not only for green policy's sake, but also for the working American's wallet.

Seals strongly rejects any policy that would include disrupting ANWR and the fragile wildlife life that such a reserve was built to protect. Such suggestions, says Seals, represent the short-sightedness that got America into the energy crisis we face today. Disappearing wetlands, lake communities in jeopardy, especially Lake Michigan and, least of all, the future state of the planet for our children are just a few extremely important reasons why Americans and Washington must focus on Green Energy reform, argues Seals.

If elected, Seals will make renewable energy policy one of his greatest priorities.

Seals: Aside from our energy needs, we also have to acknowledge that our air, water and land are resources even more important to our survival, and even easier to exhaust than oil reserves. Since we use Lake Michigan for so many important activities we have to be very aware of how we are treating this invaluable public resource. Recent studies have shown major areas of concern for the lake, including disappearing wetlands and shorelines, inadequate sewage facilities, invasive species contamination, and increased toxic pollution.

Again we have another Democratic Congressional hopeful running on the platform of "change". He targets the three big issues that nearly every candidate, whether Democrat, Republican, or Independent, is focusing on: the war in Iraq, health care, and our economy.

In regards to the war in Iraq, Seals is calling for a planned, responsible withdrawal of the troops and that any redeployment of our troops requires a clear and concise goal set according to equally as clear timetables.

His health care plan breaks down into three set agendas. 1) Allowing those who enjoy their health plan and the price to keep their coverage. 2) Providing an efficient, affordable health care program for those who can't afford a privatized plan. 3) Increasing the portability of health coverage to minimize corporate costs and allow more freedoms both to employees and employers in the process.

Catching up in the Grassroots game in the third quarter, Seals has broken his own fundraising record in the 10th district, gaining almost $700,000. This puts his total raised at $2.9 million from 6,300 contributors for the 2008 cycle, 1,600 of those are new donors from the third quarter.

Mark Kirk, a representative of the Bush agenda, raised $900,000 in the second quarter, but his earnings since then appear to be stabilizing rather than increasing.

Republican Kirk was cleared of any potential wrongdoing for violations of the "Millionaire's Amendment" by the FEC on Tuesday. His Campaign was one of six let off the hook.

Representative Mark Kirk (R) along with Judy Biggert were recently involved in an effort to modify and reinstate the The Beach Protection Act (HR 2537), which would set tight regulations and increase funding for monitoring, conserving, and cleaning up the waters and beaches of Lake Michigan.

There is no doubt that Lake Michigan occupies a significant place in the economic and social dynamics of the states along its shores. As co-chair for the Great Lakes Task Force, Mark Kirk understands the vital role of the Great Lakes to the Midwest, which is why he has proposed this measure to prevent contamination of the waters and unnecessary beach closures.

“The Great Lakes are the crown jewel of the Midwest, and we should ensure that future generations can enjoy safe, clean drinking water. While the findings of the NRDC report highlight alarming water quality issues at our beaches, the silver lining is that we lead the nation in beach monitoring. More than half of all Great Lakes beaches aren’t monitored – in Illinois, 75 percent of beaches are tested. Congress needs to boost its commitment to water safety testing by passing the Beach Protection Act to help identify the sources of bacteria that threaten the health of the public.”

Kirk's call to Congress on behalf of the Great Lakes embodies a firm awareness and commitment to the environmental, economical, and recreational concerns and well-being of the Illinois voters and a dedication to find solid, pragmatic solutions.

In a HUGE money race Kirk has out raised Seals but Seals has also raised a huge war chest. These two have enough money to spend that they could each buy commercials on the Super Bowl if the contest wasn't going to over by then. Buy stock in media outlets in this district because they will be saturating the airwaves.

Congressman Kirk should have no difficulty turning Seals' support from Senator Obama against him. All he would have to do is call out Obama on his voting record for either not showing up for votes or voting "Present" when those issues most important to Democrats have come to the floor. One other challenger for this seat is from the Green Party and could siphon votes from Seals or even win by garnering enough support.

Mark Kirk (R)

Mark Kirk represents the views of his district. He is a common sense conservative who is a Republican but still cares about the environment and other important issues that some members of his party have failed to focus on.

On the other side is Dan Seals. Dan Seals is exactly what we don't need. Seals is another Blagojevich Democrat, and we don't need any more of those to ruin our state. Seals is wrong on almost every issue ranging from the war to the economy.

As the Chicago Sun-Times said, "Kirk the easy choice in 10th district"

EARLY VOTERS: DO NOT BE SWAYED

Dan Seals continues his dirty, Chicago-like politics by send people out to early voting sites to try and sway voters to his side. Do not listen to them.

They are trying to get you to vote for Seals, but it should make you less likely to vote for him because of his Chicago-like style that is already ruining our great state.

Vote for Mark Kirk to put a stop to this dirty politics.
