Dr. Artis Cash, Democratic candidate for Louisiana's 7th Congressional District's open House seat, is dancing on a fine line with the voters of his district. Dr. Cash has been fairly overt about his stances on race relations in Louisiana. Pointing out the disparities between the races can backfire on a candidate unless its handled very carefully. Catering to his African-American constituency on equal opportunities is important for any candidate and may translate into votes, however the backlash from other voters may cost him the election in November.

Well, morality and leadership are two words that many Louisiana conservatives will be happy to see together in one candidate for the House, and that is what Gorman plans to deliver.

In an interview with the Times Shreveport last month, Gorman said that he is running, "because I have a calling on my heart to serve. I am deeply concerned...about where this country is heading. I made a conscious decision after a lot of prayer...to get into this race."

Gorman says that his prime focus will be on reducing the price of gasoline by reducing America's dependency on foreign oil via his 11-point plan, which calls for sending a "message out" to foreign suppliers that "America is capable of doing this on our own."

Republican candidate Chris Gorman has chosen to use the “Gas Tax Holiday” as a talking point for his bid for Louisiana's 7th Congressional District's open seat, vacated by Jim McCrery(R). Unfortunately, 70% of Americans believe suspending the gas tax for a brief period is simply political pandering and wouldn't make a difference in the long run for the price we pay at the pump. Gorman latched onto the idea around the same time as the presidential candidates, but has not let the issue evaporate, which may effect him at the polls.

It appears that with the roll back of oil prices, Gorman has removed this proposal from his website. No one ever said the Holiday was permanent and it was only suggested to be a short term position to alleviate the pain from consumers. As the situation has evolved, it is not necessary but I fail to see why the proposal was received with the level of derision it received. This is still a nation which has refused to build a nuclear reactor or a new refinery so we cannot afford to limit our options. Gorman's website shows he is in favor of ALL forms of energy relief including converting from corn based ethanol fuels which have been one of the most harmful, least effective boondoggles ever to sugar cane based fuels which would not have the same negative effect on food prices, the environment or farmers.
