Why Aren't People More Up-In-Arms About Outsourcing?

Is outsourcing really necessary outside of generating higher profits for the company that does it?  Why aren't people angrier about outsourcing when our unemployment figures are so high?  In my small Condo complex (28 Units) I know of 4 people who had high paying jobs that have been out of work for months.  That's not to say that any of them would qualify for these jobs but many who are out there struggling do and need the money desperately.  So...why do we put up with it and why do we buy from businesses that do outsource jobs?  Undecided

People care, just not enough. They care enough to complain, but what can we really do? The only power we have is in electing officials (minimal) and with our dollars (also minimal, unless you are fairly wealthy). So, in effect, there is practically nothing we can do. But the qualifier practically means there is SOMETHING we can do. We can buy American. We can research companies to see who's taking jobs from us and moving them overseas. And we can stop buying things from these companies.

But those that care don't care enough to go this step. We feel defeated before we begin because we have so little power individually. It's only collectively that we can hope to have any real power.

They have not been told by the government or cable media that out-sourcing is bad for the country! However, they have been told: "Out-sourcing puts affordable goods on the shelves of Wal-Mart"!

I actually think it's a bit of both. Perhaps some people feel the jobs that are outsourced don't pay much and even if they did, there's not much people can do about it. I don't see the need of outsourcing to people who don't speak or understand our languge and don't have the answers for you when there is a problem. It's a very frustrating experinece being on the other end of a telephone with these people, no matter where they are. I say send these jobs home or make it nonlucrative for companies to do this and get away with their profits.

I agree with Kukla, it really is both. Congress can't really make laws punishing companies for sending jobs overseas, and it is not a big enough issue to garner much national attention.
