Why are so many black people being shot? What can be done to stop it?

I have a serious problem with this, and while I support racial unity, it is glaringly obvious that black people are being persecuted. You don'y have to be black, or on the far left, to notice this injustice.

I do agree with you, but the problem isn't just that they get shot more often. It is much wider than that. Look at poverty, for example. In the US the poverty rate for blacks and hispanics is double that for whites. They are poorer, and this puts them at greater risk of either turning to crime and/or being shot.

This is usually where I start to get angry when talking to Conservatives, because most of them want to believe these statistics have some sort of basis in a genetic (i.e. racial) predisposition to crime and violence, which is absolute textbook racism. They are actually turning the truth on its head, as they so often do, because it is racism which impoverished these people in the first place, so now they are blamed for being the cause of other people's racism, which is ridiculous. It's just one of the many ways Conservatives put effect before cause (or putting the cart before the horse, in layman's terms). They want you to believe they are racist because black people rob and kill, but of course the reality is that their own racism has created that situation in the first place.

I'm reminded of the George Zimmerman case, if you remember it. Reading through Conservative trolls comment on that case really struck home for me how nasty and openly racist some of them are. But perhaps it is to be expected. America was segregating blacks right up until 1964. You can't turn that culture off overnight. There are people alive today who lived in those times, or at best are only one or two generations away. It's going to be a long, slow road, I'm afraid.

Thank you for explaining this to me. I believe in equal opportunities for all human beings.
