Why do good guys wear white and bad guys wear black? Is that racist?
Why can't bad guys wear pink or something. I mean, at least that would explain why they get their ass kicked and lose all the time.
And good guys could wear like a rain bow thing to show that they encompass everyone, every color, nationality creed and religion. The good guys take everyone under consideration.

Black has always been a feared color... color of mystery and fierce power. Plus, it's a badass color, and only badasses wear black (like the Punisher and Neo). if anything, i see a lot of bad guys wear white cause it's a color of arrogance and egomania. (why Diddy wears white). and yes, neither are actually colors, but fuck yo couch, bitch. 1

I think there are several reasons why this is. And you're right: it is very stereotypical...But I will list why the black-evil/white-good thing goes on and maybe it'll seem (...should I say clearer? 'Cos I'm not sure if you're just asking this out of interest or not...) oh well... 1) It is psychological. The darkness is black - the darkness represents the unknown - and humans instinctively fear the unknown...so black is a colour that can represent fear. It also shows that the 'baddy' is an unknown or has unknown qualities. 2) The 'going to the dark side' becomes literal. 3) Also, living things require light to live and white is a colour like light, so humans are instinctively drawn to the light like the audience is drawn to a main character 4) Light is normally linked with heat and so warmth is a quality associated with a main character whereas the opposite is true with the bad guy 5) Black is the colour associated with sadness and death and, as the baddy normally causes death and sadness, then it is appropriate that it be associated with him 6) White is the colour that Jesus normally wears in his portraits...therefore most people usually link it with goodness 7) Light always vanquishes darkness, never the other way round. If there is a light in a room, the light always makes itself known 8) Darkness is the abscence of light so therefore the bad guy must be the result of the hero being absent. 9) I could go on. Point is, saying something is black or white isn't racist: technically, talking about the colours as colours people wear is not to do with race. And technically, most people are neither black nor white; they are a mixture of hues...in fact, it would be more correct to say brown and pink. |
