The facts are these: the rights of religion are enshrined in law. There is no legal recourse therefore, for "persecution" of Christians. Disagreeing with your religion, speaking out about your religion, not following your religion: that is not persecution. It just so happens that the majority of the developed world now eschew the hate-filled bile that comes out of many a Christian mouth. The majority is no longer in your favour.
Christians are not persecuting gay people, we just disagree with that lifestyle choice. I love and tolerate gays, but they need to tolerate me too. Not all Christians hate gays, and not all gays hate Christians. A growing number of LGBTQ+ people are being healed by Jesus. I am one of them. I used to be bisexual because i was raped twice. I forgave my rapists, and Jesus brought me out of that. I don't hate any person. I agree with your position that disagreement is not persecution, so you can't have it both ways. Either neith disagreement with Christianty, NOR LGBTQ+ are persecution, or BOTH are. Why don't you condem Muslims who actually excute gays en masse? Hypocrisy.
This conversation isn't about Muslims. But I condemn and disagree with any institution that executes people for being gay. Just because I don't list everything I disagree with and stick only to the topic of the debate, doesn't mean I give anybody else a free pass to execute gay people.
The motivation for being against Christian persecution of gay people is that gay people should not be persecuted. It is not that I make a point to only care about the immoralities of Christians. I despise anybody nomatter their colour, creed, or faith, who executes people, period.
Disagreement is not persecution. But disallowing people marriage; the ability to shop in certain stores; or the right to equal treatment, for being gay, IS persecution. Those things don't happen to American Christians. And they shouldn't happen to America homosexuals.
You correctly said it is not persecution to disagree. I absolutely AGREE that some who profess the Name of Jesus Christ have persecuted LGBTQ+, but the vast majority of those who truly know Jesus would be content to not persecute them. I am pleased to say I never have and never will persecute an LGBTQ+ person. I only offer my religious opinion when asked, and prefer not to argue about it. I again am sorry you have had negative experiences with my Christian brothers and sisters, and will pray for you, but I reserve the right to my own beliefs, as you do yours.
