Why do people support gay marriage when Romans 1:26 clearly condemns it?

And the book of Romans was directed towards the believers within the city-state of Rome. Who says it's applicable to the rest of the world? Also, that verse does not directly condemn gay marriage, but simply labels homosexual activity as shameful. Strictly speaking, heterosexual sex outside of the context of marriage was labelled in the same way. Also also, in that verse, the people were not naturally homosexual, but were compelled by god to be homosexual. This is the exact same kind of dick move god pulled in the old testament, like torturing the crap out of Job for a bet, and 'hardening the pharaohs heart' so he could subject the pharaoh and his people to more plagues. 1

The bible also condemns eating cheeseburgers (anything that mixes meat and dairy)... so why doesn't everyone condemn McDonalds? It also condemns work on the sabbath... so why doesn't everyone condemn people who work on the sabbath, turn on their computer on the sabbath, or do any of their homework on the sabbath? The NEW TESTAMENT also clearly condemns women speaking in Church. I assume that at church you condemn then and create as much hate for them as you do towards gay marriage. 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 1

Well, assuming you are talking about Christians, this is because the Bible's interpretations change over time. There are countless places where parts of the Bible are no longer followed, and the prejudice against homosexuality is slowly becoming less relevant in today's society. |
