Is MORE cops ON the street, ON the border and IN your bedroom, smaller government?? Hello: I shoulda linked you to the above debate, because it's THAT debate that prompted THIS one.. If you read that one, you'll see that to a man, the right wingers who responded said, and I paraphrase, you can't count the cops because the cops keep us safe. To my way of thinking, the SIZE of the government is measured by the SIZE of its payroll. To my way of thinking, a COP on the payroll is no different than a BUREAUCRAT on the payroll.. To my way of thinking, the SIZE of the government is measured by the SIZE of its payroll That means that YOU count bureaucrats and YOU count cops. Right wingers don’t count the number of bureaucrats, but the number of bureaus/roles of the government. Why should they count bodies when their concern is role? One of the legitimate roles of government is the military, that doesn’t mean right-wingers are against increasing the size of the military for WWII. Why do you wish to avoid the actual conversation that the Right is trying to have about the size and scope of government? They don’t mean number of employees. Stop pretending they do. We don't have right-wingers where I live, but we don't count police officers because they are there to make sure the people within a country follows the rules and laws in the constitution of that nation. And we the people pick which government should rule the country. Unlike the police, which we do not choose. Individuals decide whether they want to join the police or not, just like any other job. So, in short: Government rules a country, while police is just a job for the people. That's at least how it is in Norway. Side: It's crazy to COUNT cops
