Why do they put holes in crackers?

These holes are called ‘docking holes. They serve as the cracker’s heat vent. When baking cracker dough, moisture vaporizes as heat sets in. Without these docking holes, steam will have no room to escape thus resulting in the crackers ‘puffing up†or bubbling. These holes are what prevents them from puffing up and keeps them in a flat shape, as well as the cracker’s hard and crisp texture. 3

I think there are a few possible reasons. 1. It has something to do with the baking process. 2. It has something to do with the mass manufactoring process. 3. Just cause. It could be a trademark aspect of crackers. 4. Because human crackers have holes in their heads, OOOOH! 5. Just cause; why the f*ck not? 2
