Because every totalitarian regime in Asia and the West was built on the Marxist concept of Social Darwinism. It's a part of the human makeup to look to god, someone or to an ideology. It's what makes things make sense. It gives an order to the world that is psychologically neccessary. They reject god, so they create there own pseudo religion, and Communism is it. In this case, the system is a pseudo god that tells you what to think and in theory "takes care of you"(yet it never does in real life). Their actual preference is a human "god", like Barack Obama. "He is the second coming". "He will light the way". Is it not strange that they mocked God, but used religious terminology with Obama? That's what they are always doing. They are looking for "the one". Side: This reason

Theyre not atheistic because theyre vehement about there not being a god. They do away with religion because they dont want any power structure competing against them for control of the people. Its a political power move. Not because atheism is evil and drives people to whipe out religion. Thats on these people specifically. Side: This reason

Governmentally enforced communism/socialism cannot be rooted in any religion or philosophy that asserts that theft, enslavement, or covetousness are sins. That means that almost all religions are incompatible with communism and socialism, which makes atheism/secularism the necessary default. This is because communism/socialism are based on people who covet what others have taking over a nation, stealing the possessions of everyone, and enslaving everyone to work for a government that insists it is sharing everything fairly.
