Why doesn't Amy Winehouse go away?

She's great because the media says so.

Surely this is a transparent example of the music industry flexing their muscles and demonstrating that they can perpetrate any heinous crime they fancy in their expertly cultivated market. We have all been instructed to like Ms. Winehouse' nasal whining through saturation media and the weak among us have fallen. This is a conspiracy to proselytise of 'The English Patient' proportions.

Because Amy Winehouse is famous and she gets in to all sorts of trouble, people love hearing about her, so the media continues to report her latest troubles. It's similar (in a sense) to all the issues the media loved to report about Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan, and all the other crazy celebrities who get more money than they know what to do with, start feeling invincible, and then get themselves in to bad situations. Since the media is all about selling copies, and nothing seems to be more infatuating to the general public than hearing about celebrities crazy behavior, they keep pumping this crap out and shoving it down our throats.

I wonder if there's an evolutionary advantage to ghoulishly watching/hoping for someone's failure? I'm convinced people only watch downhill skiing for the wipeouts.
